Keypad Entry Mod - some questions
Keypad Entry Mod - some questions
I have a 2002 F150 XLT. I wanted a Lightning, but my sensible side got the better of me - the whole lack of back seat and all - bummer.
I have been researching on the site for info on the Keyless Keypad addition to the door and it looks pretty simple. But I have a couple questions for you experts. I posted here in the Lightning section because it seems like a lot of you have done this mod.
I am looking for the exact part number for a BLACK handle for my '02. I have seen two different ones and want to be 100% sure I am getting the right part.
And, am I correct in assuming that, since I have an '02, I can skip the dremel work that was required on some of your installs?
I have the keypad part number as YL3Z-14A626-AA and the door handle as 1L1Z-7822405-_ _ _, (where _ _ _ is the color code). But I have seen a couple different part numbers for the Black one and want to make sure I get the right one. Because a friend of mine who works at a dealership out of state is going to get the parts for me at a discount and he doesn't have the ability to verify them before he orders without his manager asking why he needs to verify them (since he's not supposed to do this anyway
)
Any assistance is much appreciated. This forum is really great!

I can't seem to find my receipt for the correct numbers, but one thing I do recall. They've probably changed the part #'s since I did mine in 01 anyway. Perhaps someone with an 02 can help here.
Whether or not you have to dremel depends on whether or not the NEW handle has those weights. The handle you're removing doesn't really matter.
One thing I would suggest you do is head over to http://www.svtlightnings.com and check out the how to section for this install.
Good luck!

Get the paint code off the door jam
And your on your way. I believe I read where someone with an 02 still had to cut the counter weights off the handle assembly

Thanks for the fast replys!
I found the paint code this morning by accident
OneRedTXBolt.
I wonder why the counder weights are there if they don't fit on any of the doors? That seems really strange. Oh well, if I have to give the dremel a work out then so be it. I REALLY want this mod! But, it seems that if the handle I pull has the weights, then the new one having them shouldn't matter unless they interfere with the keypad which wouldn't make a lot of sense on a handle designed to accept the keypad.
The page on the SVT page is what inspired me to do this.... the confirmation of my suspicion that the harness was already there (given that my truck came with one of those little cards with the code on it) made me want to do it ASAP. If I was going to have to add the harness it might not have left me as "inspired"
.
Thanks again, and if anyone with an '02 has done this, please let us know about the weights.

I have no idea why the weights are there... If they are NOT needed by 2002 design then they will bind with inner workings of door when you try to install. You can either cut them off as I did or transfer the bracket from one door handle to another as others have done... I didn't want to worry about riveting the old bracket on the new handle so I just cut the weights off... The pictures of the cut weights in the how to are from my install.

Well, I got the mod done by moving the bracket from my handle to the new handle, but I am probably going to do the mod again with the correct part.
I was at the dealership and had them CrossRef the part that everyone is using and its not for an F150 at all. He didn't show it connected to any vehicle.
I am going to try and order one for an '02 Lariat and re-do the mod so it looks 100% stock inside and out. I am **** like that. Knowing I have a bolt and a ghetto-rigged handle doesn't sit well with me. I need stuff to be perfect on my truck. I also am going to order the additional fasteners for the keypad. There are supposed to be three of them back there.

When you say the correct part what do you mean ? A handle that doesnt have the weights?? You might try ordering the handle from a 2002 Lightning since the 2002's came with the Keypad. The pictures and text from the how to are a year or 2 old - If you come up with new info send me an email I'll add i t to the How-To.
