Lightning conversion

I really want to buy an Lightning but since there are no SVT dealers on Guam and I don,t want to buy one in the states and ship to Guam and I doubt my mom would buy me one I might just get a 150 XL flareside. What would I have to do to make the 150 XL perform and handle like a Lightning. Theres a 00 silver Lightning on Guam some lady just moved here 2 weeks ago so this really made me want one. It's the ONLY Lightning on Guam
So can I have everyons input

What killa said.

It would cost a small fortune and be a ton of work to convert a regular f-150 into a lightning....and when all is said and done, you would not have a "real" factory built lightning. (not to mention your warrenty would be shot..but i don't know how that would work anyway in a place like guam).

I think you're asking for trouble just bringing this up in "Lightning Forum."

You can get a 5.4L Flareside F-150 with the 9.75 rear and maybe even the 4R100 transmission. Add an Eaton supercharger, Lightning wheels, suspension and badges. In the end though, it's still just an F-150 with a supercharger, Lightning wheels, suspension and badges. It's not a real Lightning unless Ford SVT built it.

It would really be less expensive just to start out with a Lightning in the beginning. Even with the shipping fees.

Another option is to buy a used F-150 XL 4.2L Flareside. Lower the suspension. Install some imitation Lightning wheels and badges. You'd also want an Eaton Inside sticker for the rear window You could also mount a hairdryer under the hood, with a switch in the cab. Then you'd need to go out looking for victims. Be sure to race everyone you see and whenever you rev the engine, flip the switch to turn on the hairdryer so everyone thinks you have a supercharger.

You can make a 5.4L a very fast truck, even without a supercharger. If you can't get a Lightning: do what you can. Just don't put SVT badges on it.

Not really my friend. the L motor has forged rods and pistons that have alowered compression so he would have to put new rods and pistons in that block anyway. the L also has 42lb injectors, bigger fuel pumps, intercooler pumps and radiator, suspension differences that are tuned by SVT. Hard to beleive but all of that combined plus allot more is what make's the L such an incredible vehicle for such a great price.

There's allot more to what I said above, but he can go ahead and try to convert it over. Don't forget about the SVT interior and brakes, and rims, and sway bars, and srpings, and shocks, and bumper, and grouns effects, and grille, and badges, and mirrors, lights front and back (thats a grand alone!!!).

Trust me its allot easier to get a used L and tell you parents its a f150 man. if there normal parents they won't know what a lightning is and they won't get pissed until you got it anyway.

and I don't see to man N/A 5.4 f150's running 12's or 13's at all. there might be a couple out there, but the eaton blower is what makes the L so awesome.

Rtkilla hit the nail on the head. It'd probably be too expensive to convert a flareside to a lightning and it still won't be a real lightning. But no one's is going to stop you if you do.

And yeah, I get a little torqued when I see a mock lightning with all the badging, but I know that when the rubber hits the road, his ain't real.

Figure out how much it would cost to freight a car to Guam. Find out if you've got a place in town that can fix Lightnings and get SVT parts. The darn thing needs high 91+ octane gas, too, so make sure you've got the right gas for it, too.

Then figure out how much it would cost to:

1) Buy and install and liquid/air intercooler
2) Buy and install s/c
3) Buy and install better internals
4) Buy and install better injectors
5) Buy and install better brakes
6) Buy and install better shocks, springs, wheels and tires
7) Buy and install sway bars
8) Buy and install ground effects and grill.
9) Buy and install Lightning seats, dash (boost gauge), and badging
10) Buy and install the 4R100 transmission
11) Buy and install the alum. drive shaft
12) Buy and install 3.73 gears
13) Oh yeah, buy the Flareside.

I probably missed something but I'm still tipsy. I think you'll have your work cut out for you either way so best of luck.

ummm... I don't know of any F150 (besides the Lightning) that has a 9.75 rear, and the only F150 Flaresides with a 5.4 are the Supercabs.

Your right Fast Gator,
THIS IS GONNA GET UGLY. But they come here asking for trouble so all we really do is give them what they asked for.
IF YOU WANT A LIGHTNING, BUY A FRIGGING LIGHTNING.

I swore to Doug and Steve I was gonna be good (for a while) so I'm gonna go now, before I blow up.

I don't think so lol The 9.75 is unique to L , Expy and SD aplications

The 4R100 transmission is unique to L and SD applications.

LIKE UH WE SAID.....Get the real thing

Wink

All 5.4's get the 9.75 rear end. I have a reg. cab 5.4l non-lightning with a 9.75 rear. not trying to start anything, just wanted to clear that up.
Later.

Actually every f150 with a 5.4 comes with a 9.75 the f150 7700 or old light duty (97-98)f250 has a 10.25

f150's 5.4's now have 4r70w since 99 but in 97-98 all 5.4 had the 4r100, expeditions still use the 4r100 (5.4)

yes you can get a 5.4 in a reg cab flarside, in 99 only the 5.4 offroad package also gave you 3.73 gears

I know this was off topic but I read before about people with lightnings pulling oil through the pcv system and they were thinking of installing baffles in the valve covers - there are actually baffles in there from factory - they are L shaped

If you want the badges, put 'em on. Don't worry what other people think.
