Does filling up the filter before installation really do anything? If it were mounted on its side, you wouldn't be able to install it with oil in it unless you wanted a mess. My Expy's filter is on it's side therefore preventing a prefill before installation.

Most engine wear happens when the motor is first started because for a moment there is no oil flowing through the motor and most of the oil{film} that was in the motor has drained back down in the pan.

If you start your motor without any oil in the filter, its just going to take that much longer for the oil to start circulating.

However there isnt much you can do if your filter is mounted on it side like yours.
