6lb pulley is junk

I own a 2001 Lightning and have Dyno'ed Pulleys from 2lb to 10lb and found out that anything higher than 5lb is beyound the blowers capability to be effecient. I ran a 1lb upper and 5lb lower and lost 4 hp due to excessive blower rpm's. I would like to tell everyone that uses the stock Eaton to stay with the 5lb pulley or under or your waisting your money. If a bigger pulley sucks why are people using 10lb lowers and running quicker times at the track?

INDIVIDUALISM.... Okay, Okay, I'll stop.
Let me say that my times improved when I installed the 6#.

Cool

JBsvt,
I agree 100% that the 5# pulley is the max. for the L as far as blower efficiency is concerned.I have dynoed the 2,4,5 and 6 pound pulley and saw that it was not worth spinning the blower that much faster with a bigger pulley and have very minimal gains with anything larger than a 5# pulley on!I am sure the 8# and 10# pulleys work but you will need a powercooler or a cool motor to get the most out of it!

Your max hp might not be any better (or just a little) but the torque gain at lower rpms is a worthwhile reason to pulley up.

You should be throwing on headers too at that point, the stock manifolds begin to suck for flow with that much pressure.

Peak HP numbers are great for people who like to dyno slip race. They don't tell the whole story though. I would be interested in seeing the average gain taken over the entire curve for the different pulleys. Anybody have that info?

Not Exactly....

I wouldn't say they are worthless.... Long tubes reduce cylinder pressures...actually decreasing the boost seen by the motor. Its simple....long tubes help with cylinder scavaging. Besides producing more torque and power, they increase the reliability of your engine(Assuming you have a good tune)

i have a good tune,

with a 6lb pulley i still see roughly 14 psi of boost and picked up an amazing 5hp and 10ft/lbs, with a proper tune tuned for the same a/f as before the lt's.

I run a 10lb lower and 1.5lb upper and I see a definite improvement in 1/4 mile time. I noticed much more grunt in the lower rpm's, which decreased my 60' times to a 1.51 and dropped my 1/4 mile time by 2 tenths from an 8lb lower. I guess it depends on your tune and other mods.

*edited post to change the word increase to decrease in 60' times....my bad
