Please help with plug suggestions

Finally found out why I was missing ...
See the #7 plug ... The whole ground
is missing ... Due to ??? No. 5 is also
pretty well burned up.... Seems they all
are running VERY lean to me....

It's either runnning WAY leaner than
anyone thinks, or it has WAY too much
timing in the chip .... The A/F are
somewhat good at 11.4 or so, but
obviously there is some problem
with the setup.

Any ideas are grately appreciated...

TR6's, 4# pulley is about it ...

It might be a little of both.

Chuck,

At least I don't have to take it back to the dealer again.
The Lightning Owner's around here are a GREAT resource.

Have you had any detonation? And how long have those plugs in for?

Cap ...

Yes, apparently, though it is pretty hard to hear with
the Silver Bullets on there <grin>. After the tip burned
off, it did become really obvious that there was a problem.
Under WOT the truck kinda went Barrraaaapppppp so we
started looking for solution. I told the Ford dealer that
it was probably a plug, but it didn't show up on their
sensor data and became less pronounced when the
truck was taken back to Stock ...

The plugs are the original TR6's and have about 8,000
miles on them, so I guess they were about ready to
change. I don't baby the truck, since it is meant to be
driven. Some tuners that run the NGK's change them after
every weekend of racing, but I am not that modded yet.
The thought of this happening with the DENSO ($100.00)
plugs is also not appealing.

What concerns me the most is the apparent "leanness" of
the other plugs, and I definately don't want to blow the
engine. Since pre-detonation can be a combination of fuel and
timing, where should I start looking for data to support the
idea that this is too lean for a daily driver?

If you had to buy a datalogger, which one would you guys
suggest? The Laptop version or the Palm ? That would
make dealing with long distant tuners at least more palatable,
though much more expensive.

TIA,

Cliff

I'm running 4lb lower and 2lb upper with a tr6 for daily driving and its fine.

I don't dare use those with the 50 shot I spray. Thats what br7's are for.

you should be ok with the tr6, must be the tune.

Your luck may be better than you think...isn't this weekend the Street Machine Nationals in Springfiled, Mo? Might want to pack a camera!

Whoa what a coincidence. I was just researching this stuff today. I found one, but have to dig up the link that is only for Palm Pilots.

For me, I'm going to be getting a laptop interface. Reason is I can get an older laptop for cheap, or if I'm lucky I can get a brand new laptop for dirt cheap (but it will be luke warm). Anyway, my second car, vw GTI, has a company that makes specific code readers just for them, but it's laptop only. So I'm going to get an OBD II diagnostics for a laptop also and have them both on. So far these 2 are the most promising:

http://www.obd-2.com/
http://www.autotap.com/welcome.html

The autotap seems like the better of the 2, but some of the options get pricey ($500 for the one that scans all cars)

As for your problem, I'd suggest sending the chip back for a re-burn, or sell it and get a completely new chip from a different tuner.

Maybe a semi-cloggged fuel filter? Less fuel to the motor will let run lean right?Just a thought.Good luck
