Thumbs down Street Scene Bed Rail Caps going back

I know Rich and Rob have them on their trucks and they look great. I got mine in the other day and went to do a test fit today.

They totally failed in my quality inspection today.

The left one fits OK, I knew from Rob G's post there would have to be some tweeking done to them to fit right. I had to do a little sanding to make it fit flush, and it went fine. It was a fairlly snug fit and I could tell it would be OK.

I get to the right one, and this is where the problems begin. I pull off the factory bed rail cap, clean the paint under the cap. I tape on some cardboard which is the same thickness as the double sided tape used to hold the part on. This is the same thing I did on the left side.

Well the right one was to long and about allmost a 1/4 of a inch wider. So I stopped right there, there is no way it is going to fit right when I put my factory toneau on with these bed rail caps.

I don't know if you can tell by the pics but the top one is the right hand cap. With the naked eye you can tell it is wider.

Well all I know it is going back tomorow. I don't think I will get a replacement, from what I see their quality control sucks. I think I will take the factory bed rail caps sand them smooth and paint them.

My cowl wasn''t the prettiest either Josh but we worked some miracles with it and it looks 10 times better than when we did our first "test fit".

Sorry to hear that. Mine look pretty good and no way bent like that one. That looks like to me someone put a heavier box on top of your box and caused the rail to pancake making it wider.

Bruce,

I got my cowl in about 1 week.

Joe,

You'd be surprised what I tried to make it work. I measured it between wiper openings and the spot that wasn't fitting properly had bondo in it and was a GOOD 1/4 inch narrower than the rest. The other alignment issues I could work with.
I am sure the next one will be better and I can make it fit!

Vin

The one that is bent is the one that fits better.

The box was in good shape, but I can't belive there was No (and I mean None) packing material in the box.

They're rubber, man... Extremely flexible.

This is why I bugged Craig at SS since XMas for one of the first sets. The longer it goes, the uglier it may become. My set only needed a little bit of work to make fit right.

Either way its street scenes fault... Either #1 they didn't make it right to begin with, or #2 they didn't package it good enough, and it got squished. Sorry to hear and see this! I was looking into the smooth wiper cowl... maybe not anymore.

Sorry to hear don.
My wiper cowl was a piece of crap before prepping. It took 5 times longer prep time then the WHOLE shaker hood.
I learned a long time ago MOST (not all) but MOST aftermarket SU(KS!!!!.
It is something I have learned to deal with and tweak to my liking.

I don't think shipping had anything to do with it.

The left one fits nice and tight, just like your date at the senior prom.

The right one is so loose, just like a old worn out Ho.
