Is it possible to overtighten the nuts that hold the drop shackles on?

When I took the nuts off that hold each shackle on, it took an act of congress to remove them. They seemed to be extremely tight and I was using a 1/2" drive ratchet. Since I do not have a torque wrench I just strong armed them back on after replacing the stock shackles w/ Belltech 2" ones. Is it possible to OVERTIGHTEN the nuts? Are the shackles supposed to move?

The rear is not perfectly level with the front even though the shackles were supposed to drop it 2". Are they more like a 1.5" drop?

Drop Shackles

When I installed my drop shackles a couple of the nuts were very tight on mine as well, but I did get them off. Once the new shackles were on the truck I lowered it to the ground and bounced it up and down a couple of times to let it settle, then I tightened all the nuts down. And yes, it`s only about a 1.5 drop.

western chassis

when i put the western chassis 2 inch drop shackles on a trick i found on the nloc board was to put floor jack under front end ,jack it up ,till the weight transfered to rear , Then tightened down the shackles , got the full drop ,doing the install using this borrowed method.
Hope this helps?
