Darn SES keeps coming on, HELP!!

Everything has been running fine in my truck for months. The other day I went to JDM's website and they recommended that when installing their cold air kit to put the MAS upwards instead of in the side like stock. I had left mine on the side like the stock setup and never had a problem, but I decided to try the upward position. the SES came on the same day. I folowed the recommendations of someone in the board and disconnected the battery and MAS sensor, it came on a few hours later again. I fugured I better follow the same procedure but put the MAS sideways like before. After four days of no MAS I thought the problem was cured. I spoke to soon!!!! Today it came on again!!! Please Help! I put it in the position that it was before, Why is the SES all of a sudden keep coming on? It can't be any of my mods because it was running fine for 4000 miles and the problem only started after I decided to move the darn position of the MAF.

ummm... have you retrieved the code yet to see why the light is coming on?

I don't think your filter (or MAF position) should cause a check engine light, but you need to get the code and see what it's pointing to.

it may be something completely different. you may be jumping to conclusions or barking up the wrong tree with the maf rotation.

get it checked out, until then you are just guessing.

good luck.

later,
chris

How do you get the code? The reason I stated it's the MAS is beciase the prblem of the SES coming on started immediately after I switched the position of the MAS. It never came on before , my chip has been tuned for all my mods. The last time I added any mods was 4000 miles ago with no SES. the problem began right after I swithced the posiyion of the MAS. Less than an hour after I switched its position the SES came on. Even after disconnecting the battery and putting the MAS to its originall position, the SES light came back on, about 4 days later.

Take it to autozone or somewhere and have the code read..

I bet you have a vacuum line unpluged under the intake boot... The rubber boot that goes into the Throttle Body has 3 hoses to plug in at the bottom. I bet you knocked one of them loose or something else loose when you switched the Mass air..
Double check ALL the connections under the hood.

Thanks Doug, but everything seems to be plugged. By the way if I have the code read, How do I know what are the parameter? I will install my E-fan kit and Cobra R pump with my neighbor tomorrow. I will have him take a look at it to see if he can figure out what is wrong.

Thanks

Actually, AutoZone has quite an extensive online database of codes. After they pull your code, ask them to look it up in their vehicle specific database. It's on the same computers as their parts database.

Did you touch the MAF sensor unit while rotating it?

make sure the intake hoses are flush with the maf and not sticking over... I have fixed several trucks with this being the case. Just a small ammount of unmetered air can cause the light to come on. Also make sure you have all your hoses on securely. If all else fails have the code checked.... Autozone does this for free now....

If you have the code read, does it matter what mods you have, such as a chip?

always better to remove the chip and reset the light, then drive the vehicle. If light comes back on you know its base EEC and not chip related, then get the code pulled adn you can go from there. Might not even be related to the intake, could be something as simple as the DPFE sensor and just happened to come on at that time..

I made sure the hoses are flush. the light came on today again. Where is usally a good place to get the codes read? is the reading affected by the mods you have? Does the chip have to be removed before the reading? Do our MAS's go bad, or the sensors that hook to the MAS and filter?
