Question When does the Gen 3 Lightning come out?

What year is the Gen. 3 L coming out? What are the differences? How much h.p. etc? What other changes will there be? Will I regret buying a new 02 Lightning or should I wait?

Yes, It'll be out 2004. Have a twin super V10 doing around 500hp.

Get the 2002 and send it to me. It might be awhile for the Gen 3's and I still don't have an L yet.

Are you serious???? A V10 w/500 hp? What do you th ink the price will be on one? Maybe I'll buy an 02 then in 3 years trade it in and buy a new one. That might be my best bet.

Thumbs up

looks like the Gen3's will be here in a few months:

As the undisputed champion in the sport truck segment, the third-generation 2003 SVT F-150 Lightning carries on with upgrades that continue to up the ante. Setting the standard in acceleration, handling and attitude, the 2003 SVT F-150 Lightning hammers into its eighth year of production as the world's fastest factory-produced pickup. The SVT F-150 Lightning is produced in Oakville, Ontario, Canada

blue02lightning, figure early 05 before you see one. I posted a link a few weeks ago to an article with quotes from Coletti. Basically he said at least 6-12 months after the release of the 04. No word yet on any upgrades to hp, etc.

I think you mean the '03's will be here in a few months, not the "Gen3's" right?

anyway, the updated F-150 comes out next summer as an 04 model, the Lightning should follow by 6 (most likely) to 12 months from what I have heard.

the 6 months thing would have them hitting the streets around the normal time which is at the begining of each calendar year or January to March-ish.

later,
chris

Wink

I heard it is going to be a 5.4L Twin, not a V10. One way or another it should be hot.

my guess is the truck will be built off of what the rest of the f150's have (just like now)

the 04's will have 3v heads and more than likely so will the Lightning

it will also more than likely use the new 5 spd auto trans, as it will be used with the diesel's (just like the current trans)

that will all help keep cost down

Look what a little 4.6 that can breathe can do, so a 5.4 that can breath will do more of the same but with more tourque, ford will probably rate them at 390 hp aswell (guess, mostly so they don't out due the cobra) but they will actually put out more than that (just like the cobra)

Personally i don't think ford will put a v10 in due to weight balance, if they did it would just end up delaying the Lightning. There is also marketing - lightnings promote power of a 5.4 so they probably help sell 5.4's, there is no v10's in any f150's so why promote an engine that no one else can get.(in a light duty)
