Thumbs up Painted my Brake Calipers! (Pics)

To prep the calipers, I sprayed them with brake parts cleaner and while they were still wet I scrubbed them with a stainless steel wire brush. The cleaner softened up the original black paint enough for the wire brush to knock of the shiny surface. After a good brushing, I wiped down with a shop towel and resprayed. Then I masked the caliper off and sprayed each one with 3 coats of Ford Red engine paint rated for 500* F.

Took less than an hour to do and I think the results were positive!

I remember someone saying that thiers turned kinda orange, so it might... but I did use hi-temp engine paint, so if it does it will probably be a while. However, a single frest coat of paint will fix that!

Phillip, I like the way you masked over the 2 recesses in the caliper... Notice I painted all of mine.

Here's a pic of red calipers on a blackL and on my brand new '02 GT. I used less than one spray can of Plati-Kote to do both sets.

The calipers on the L have been on for over 5 months and still look new.

Yea, I masked off the two places just to be different. On the rear, I was thinking about painting the little area down by the hub in a black, just to clean it up, but decided I didn't have enough time, oh well, another day will come.

make sure you take out the pads and cover the piston area. It looks much better that way...
