Help With Rear Transmission Seal Leak!

While installing my driveshaft loop I noticed that my rear output transmission seal is leaking. My truck is lowered 4 inches in the back but my driveshaft looks not to be out of alignment. I was wondering what would cause this? Should I order some shims for the rear end and just replace the seal? Also if it was caused by the driveshaft being put into a bind could it have harmed my transmission? I haven't heard any noise or had any trouble out of my transmission so far. Any suggestions??

I dont know man. BUt i had a rear look at around 13K miles. Got it replaced then later on i had to have my whole rear end replaced. As for the driveshaft being out of alignment, i dont know. My truck was lowered 2" with the shackles but i dont think that was the cause of seal leak.

From observations I understand that a 2" drop works well for traction purposes. Changes the shaft angle just enough to help and not enough to hurt. I would speculate that you need to install a wedgeto compensate for the 4" drop. I think you can get them most anywhere that sells the drop kits....

You ought to have Keith look at it while he is still up there.

the tail shaft leak on the rear of the trans is not a big deal and can be caused by a small nick in the driveshaft tube that slips over the tail shaft gear and into the seal. Just remove the driveshaft, use a screwdriver and small hammer to bend up the lip of the seal and pull it out. clean up the seal mating surface, put some silicone on the new seal and tap it in.

Mine leaked the day I drove it off the lot. My situation was a little different, it was leaking bad enough to spray the whole undercarriage very badly. My dealership ended up replacing the whole transmission under warranty and sending it back to Ford to find out what the problem was.
