Talking Lightning To Chitna

Weather was too good to stay at work today so I jumped in the L and headed up the road. Its a 120 mile drive to Chitna from Valdez, going through canyons, mountain passes, plenty of curves, lots of straights and NO COPS. Chitna is an old railroad town that was built in the early 1900's to support the railroad to Kennicott Coppers first mine. The drive was especially nice since I was in my Lightning

Took some shots:

That is some beautiful country up there Iam sure I would be wanting to make that drive all the time. The only problem that i can forsee, is that it gets cold enough in Jersey for me

Gas Stations

Plenty of stations on the way, only prob is no one carries supreme. I had a five gallon can of it just in case, though I made it back to Valdez with a quarter tank left. Temperature in Chitna was 70, and in the mid sixties or higher most of the way there.

Wow, those are some gorgeous pics! And the mountains look good, too!

Seriously, though, it looks great. Just goes to show how photogenic even a stock Lightning is!

Stock on the outside. Maybe Tundra, Nicetry & jrjen2 could make it down this way for a little runoff.

Did you go to Kennicott and pull yourself across the river?
Is it still a wash-board dirt road? The L sure wouldn't like that!
Thanks for the awesome pic guys.....Keep'em coming please!

Kennicott-McCarthy

Wouldn't dream of taking the L up there! But by coincedence I did rent a Ford Aerostar and went up the week before. The road is indeed washboard in alot of sections. It took me 2 1/2 hours to go the 60 miles of dirt road from Chitna to McCarthy. It was a great day though and it is a beautiful trip, just got to take your time (and a rent a car )

(by the way Redneck, they put walking bridges across the river-no more hand trolley)

I forfeit! You and NCETRY can race it out for the quickest. Last I heard he was shooting for 11's at Palmer a few weekends ago. Maybe if I get a 2 second head start.

Well if he drives down here, jrjen2, he wont be on slicks probably.
So maybe he would just sit there and boil the tires as we blast on by.
