Airbox cutout question

I just got a drill bit that acts as a saw as well ($4.95 @ HD). I want to use it to cut one or more holes in the bottom of my stock airbox. I have a few questions though...

1. I don't have a chip. Should wait until I have one for this mod?

2. Is it okay to cut one big rectangular opening, or should I go for multiple smaller holes?

Thanks!

-Ollie

Thumbs up modify stock air box

You can do it either way, when I was using my stock air box I drilled 5 inch and a half in the bottom of my air box and I gained an extra pound of boost. That was with no chip or any other mods.

I hope this helps.

Larry.

Just get a 12" cone filter. Keep your OEM parts OEM.

Agreed.......but when you can just cut the bottom off the stock airbox why spend the 200+ for another filter setup. Don't get me wrong, I bought a filter kit but maybe he is looking to be "stealthy" or something.

My opinion is,save yourself the money and just cut the hole. i cut one big hole in mine but several small hole should work too.
You dont need a chip for this mod.

The first time I did it, I drilled 12 1/2" holes. Then a few months later, I just cut a rectangle out where the holes had been. The rectangle gives slightly more boost due to the larger opening. Which ever you decide to do, make sure to take the airbox out of the truck. There are several wire bundles directly underneath the airbox.

I agree, why spend $200 for a minimal, if any, HP increase, but getting an aftermarket intake.
