Raced an M3

Got on the beltway doing a little faster than the speed limit in the left lane. Driving for a few miles, then coming up quickly behind me is a BMW. He passes by me in the middle lane. I then see that it is a 2002 M3 convertible. I pull behind him in his lane and follow him from a close distance for about a half a mile. I then pull back in the left lane with thoughts of passing him. He then slows down so that we are side by side doing about 75-80mph. I had thoughts about "playing", but decided to keep it cool...that is until he mashed the pedal, couldn't resist so I mashed it too to see how the L would match up. He got about a truck and a half lead right off the bat since he got the jump. I thought I was toast since we started from such a high initial speed. But very quickly the truck began pulling on him and passed him by about a two truck lengths. We hit the brakes for oncoming traffic. I was surprised. This must have bothered him, because we did it again about two miles further down. He punched it first again from a 75MPH roll, and the results were the same, I pulled on him pretty good. Not sure how fast we were going on the top end since I didn't look at the speedo. I would estimate 110-115MPH.

I didn't think I could take a 2002 M3 from a 75-80MPH roll. Man am I pumped.

Why not? He's making alot of power. He's capable of low to mid 12's.

I raced a new M3 conv. last week in 90 degree temp, and from 0 - 125 we were dead even. We raced about 5 times, pretty much the same every time.
