Not slapshot, but don't give them a reason to pull you over and you won't have to worry about it

...or you could just out run them and not have to worry about it.

I've always liked...

"Hey, isn't their a real crime going on somewhere"?
or
"So, writing me this ticket is the extent of your law-enforment skills"?

Wait, neither of them ever worked. Nevermind.

Hmmm...there isn't a magic word that makes it go away. Some officers I know write the ticket, no matter what is said.

Me personally, I usually write a ticket, BUT, if someone is honest and says, yeah, I was going a little too fast, I'm much more likely to give an $80 ticket versus a $145-$270 ticket, or just a verbal warning. Attitude goes a LONG ways with me.

Guaranteed ways to GET a ticket:

Your prior driving record plays into it sometimes also. You'd be amazed how many times a watch people look in the glovebox for the registration and thumb past previous tickets. If you have other tickets in the car, or say, "if I get one more ticket, my DL will get suspended", guess what, you get the full speeding ticket.

If you have a radar detector, full ticket also.

Start running your mouth or cop up an attitude, full ticket and every other ticket I can find to write.

Run your mouth or argue the ticket AFTER I cut you a break and gave youthe cheaper, normal moving violation, I'll walk back and change it to the full speeding fine and charge.

Have a suspended DL, every ticket I can write. If it is suspended for DUI, off to jail with you.

Child not in a child restraint, automatic ticket, period.

Speeding in school zone, automatic ticket, and the fine is doublehere in Florida. Eg, a $270 fine for 30+ over, becomes $540!!!!! And, yes, I have written a few of those.

I normally don't even move unless someone is atleast 15 over. Some people use 10, many use 15. I found that my trips to court are less with the higher speeds. However, if it's wet, and aggressive driver, etc, then I do lower it. Since many of my tickets are 20+ over, at that speed, they normally get the full ticket.

Just remember, it is nothing personal. Doing this is part of our job, whether we like it or not. Some people write more tickets than others. Some officers have better personalities than others, there are cops who are a-holes, I will be the first to admit that. If you run into Cletus with an attitude, all I can recommend is be very polite and DO NOT argue with him. That just makes them write more.

Personally, I am not out there to write every person a several hundred dollar ticket for no reason. If I feel a warning is right, than that is what I do. Every situation is different.
