Flex A Lite

Who has tried the flex a lite setup?

The local ford dealership that has a racing parts showroom (quite impressive actually) has one of these on the wall and they said that it would outflow the OEM unit and as far as that ford dealership is concerned they wouldn't even think twice concerning warranty issues after installing that fan.

They wanted 400 which is about 10 or 20 higher than mail order (not including taxes).

It comes with the intercooler bracket and a/c control switch.

I am seriously leaning toward this unit...

thanks

Sounds like a great setup. Is it the dual-fan setup? I know at least 1 person on this board has that on their truck.

You should ask the dealer about the flow rates, though - seeing Johnny's new kit... 2800cfm, and including the Cobra R water pump, for only $50 more than that.... Might be something to look into.

Yeah, it is the dual fan setup. At 100% operation, flow is 5500 CFM which is downright amazing if you ask me...

You can read about it at the flex-a-lite website here:

heheh

actually, here is the real link. That is the my redneck of the day post.

Basically they haven't done anything *new* to the fan other than they now ship the intercooler bracket with ALL 270s regardless of whether or not they need the intercooler bracket. They told me is was cheaper to do it that way than to keep sending out the requested brackets.

He also told me you can leave the factory water pump in place. I really didn't want to get into changing the waterpump unless I had to as the gains seem minimal at best for the labor and cost involved. (more the labor than anything)

Yeah - 5500CFM is some serious airflow. But, $400 is some serious coinage.... Heck, you could save $100, and just get the 10lb lower! I think it's worth it, though, if you've got the money to drop.

True, but it is about the same price as the other fan kits out there give or take 30 or 40 bucks. At the point you have done the standard mods -- chip, pulley, filter, tb, etc., it is a good mod to do (an electric fan, that is).

I just thought the dual setup would be slick in that it pulls a ton of air even at 60% operation, and has 2 fan units instead of one which would provide some safegaurd in the event of a motor failure. (my biggest fear in doing this mod)

I will probably have one on the truck in 3 or 4 weeks -- that is, as soon as I can get around to ordering it and putting it on.

I have had it for 4 months now. Its an awesome setup and flows some serious air. I have set in the staging lanes for an hour at Cecil and never had a temp over 88C. Here are some Pics.

Go to my Gallery. I think I have some there also.

ANd if you get the FLX-270. DON'T mount the Fan Controller on the Shroud. Mount it behind Headlight away from Heat and It works much better.

Thanks,

Jon
