Good Deal or Not on OEM Tonneau Cover?
Hey there,
If you remember a post I did a couple days ago, I have been trying to figure out what cover to get. I called the dealer, a bit of advice I got here! and asked my salesman if he could talk to parts and hook me up at the same option price, as I wanted the cover when I bought the truck only a few weeks ago and they didn't even know it was an option (great trained Ford SVT dealer, eh? The truck only has one darn option!) Anyways, haven't heard back at all from them at all. So, I heard from a guy on the classifieds section here... he is selling his OEM cover off of a 2001 Lightning, says it is barely used (took off right away and bought a hard cover). Asking $250 + shipping. Is this a good deal? It's cheap compared to aftermarket covers, but Edmunds lists the factory cover at $128 invoice and $150 MSRP! But then I have heard that is only the price if you buy it with the truck, and if you buy from the Ford parts dept. it will cost $300. Hmm, what to do? Any advice?

I think that's a bit expensive for a used cover, but if you want the Ford one, then maybe go for it.
You mention that it's less expensive than aftermarket, which doesn't seem right. I got a Extang BlackMax cover, new, for $198, which included shipping.

jeffsavage,
$250 is pretty close to the new price of teh snapless, which i think you said you were looking for. If you buy it from the classifieds, you have no tax, but you have shipping. If the guy is far away from you, it could cost you the $50, that you would be saving.
I've bought 2 snapless OEM ones from people off of eBay, one for my SCab and one for my SCrew and I paid about 1/2 price for them. But it cost me about $50 shipping for each of them. The dealer wanted $325 for the SCab one and i think $305 for the SCrew one.
Good luck on finding an OEM one, i loved mine for the SCab, low profile and water tight.
