Thumbs up Ran a stock 01 Z28 last night for the first time

Last night about 1 AM I encountered a new Z28 which i've been really curious to race for a long time. There werent any cars in sight so no one else was in harm's way.. I was behind him getting in the interstate at 55mph and he downshifted and took off and I followed right behind him. Being that i took my truck back to stock form I thought this was a pretty good race..The only mod I had on my truck was my air raid filter kit. I guess this guy figured, what da He^^ kinda truck or SUV is this hanging behind me like this...He WOTs his Z and again i'm right there next to his back bumper but I slow up because I came up on wet patch on the HWY...Well he keeps going and slows up so I can catch up, I guess outta curiosity to see what was giving him a hard time...This we lined up side by side and launch from 60mph. I jumped out on him about half a car length and around 120 he starts itching forward which was expected..I let off and he slows down also..We got off the next exit and at the light he told me, " Hey man, I could have took you but that is a fast truck!!" He told me I suprised the heck outta him.. Now i'm itching to put my chip back in the truck since its back running in tip top shape..Just gotta get it retuned and maybe next through a pulley on it..It probably would have been a different story

The highway is no place to race Z's, my buddy has an 01 Z28 with the basic bolt on's. I'm running a JDM 2lb pully, JDM chip, and Bassani cat back. EVERY time we run on the highway he walks me by like 6 to 8 truck lengths at least, but I have the faster 1/4 mile times. The one you encountered probably was an LT1 and not an LS1. Anyway sounds like a good time

6 to 8 truck lengths??

I was wasting my time then huh?

BTW was there a certain year they started making the LS1's? or is that just an optional motor over the LT1's? I thought all were LS1s from 00 to 02

well if it was an 01 z28 then it would have been an Ls1 not an LT1 i think they started putting the new LS1's when they made the body style change

Ran an 02 SS Camaro twice last night. It was new, with no plates yet.

First time was from about 35 mph. He hit it first, and got a small jump. The Lightning just motored away from him.

The second time was from a stop light. I guess he wasn't familiar with Lightning trucks. He was late, and within 100 yards, I had two lengths on him, and was still pulling away. Too much traffic, so I shut it down at about 70.

Hw wouldn't even acknowledge me as he made a right turn at the next light.

Time for you to get a 4 or 6# lower pulley. You'd then walk him.

Anywhere is a good place top race LS1's. 10secL and l laid waste to a WS6 from a 70/80mph roll last night on a Tennessee track. Did he know we were racing? Um, he down shifted that is all I need to hear. By the time I lifted my foot from the accelerater we were at a good 130/140 mph and at least 20 car lengths.

I killed a new blue, convertable, A4 corvette from a 30 roll this morning. That guy reved at me first. He didn't stand a chance.

ACtually had an encounter with a LS1 Z28 last night also, think 98 or 99. Pulled up next to him at a stop light and from a start we jumped out the same, when I shut down around 100 I had about 3-4 carlengths on him and I was still pulling away. I stopped and he told me he had done some mods to it. Exhaust, air, maybe a chip. Good race all in all I was happy with it. After I also noticed overdrive was on still. Forgot about it, oh well.

That wouldn't make a difference at all. You raced till about 100 so you still were in Drive (3rd). All OD is is 4th. You would have shifted into 4th around 115 to 117, which is perfectly normal and fine. That's your top speed gear.

I'm not doubting you, but my '02 w/ 6# Lower and my own chip can only hang w/ my bud's '02 Z06 from a dead stop till about the top of 2nd. After that, it's c-ya as he leaves me.

What mods do you have?

I have both a L and an 02 Z06, and my modded L (4#,chip/filter/traction bars/etc...) gets left from a standstill by my stock Z06, with 600 miles on the odometer. Forget about it from a roll. You would have to really pile on the mods or juice to keep up with a 02/03 Z06, in a straight line

The Z is more difficult to get out of the hole well, but with a good driver, look out.

Gotta love 'em both
