I Want Advice On A Second Car!!!
I Want Advice On A Second Car!!!
Ok folks
Its time to get the miles off this L...
I have found a 94 Lincoln Mark VIII 90,000 miles perfect..well near...I can get for 5G's
I have also found a 95 Volkswagon Jetta Convertable..80,000 cold AC looks and runs great!! 4300.00
Anyone had either?? What do you all think??
Some tell me the Lincolns are POS's...I dont know if I agree..But the Volkswagon looks like a lot of fun..
Any input would be appreciated and welcomed..
Thanks

I would go for the Mark VIII... they have the early version of the 4.6L DOHC engines found in the Cobras. I think they make around 275-300 HP and should accept many of the mods available for the Cobras. Plus they are very comfortable.
Pros and Cons for each:
Lincoln:
More power
Luxury car
More interior and cargo room
Poor gas mileage
Air Suspension is horrible
Transmissions are known to be problematic (same as T-birds and Cougars; same platform)
VW:
Good gas mileage
Convertible
more expensive for repairs
convertible top will eventually give you problems
retail value will eventually be better than the Lincoln
VERDICT TAKE THE VOLKSWAGEN............to me it comes down to gas mileage and bang for your buck and well, fun factor too.............bottom line is, I'm sure you'd rather have extra money left over for mods than for gas in your beater car.........and why not go with a drop top instead of semi-luxury for your beater.
good luck

Get the Lincoln, had over 100k on my Mark with no air bag problems at all. I averaged around 20-25 in the city and 29-30 on the highway.

Think about it this way - Do you want to drive the VW convertible in the winter time? And besides - you already HAVE your FUN vehicle.
(and, as screwyou said, the VW is kind of a chick car.... Ok, TOTALLY a chick car...)
Plus - the Lincolns run pretty damn good! Like someone said, it's got the DOHC 4.6..... A guy I know (Yeah, one of THOSE
) borrowed his grandfather's Mark VIII for a week... We did quite a bit of cruising. Perfect daily driver - more comfortable than most Cadillacs I've been in, not bad gas mileage, rides great, lots of room, etc... The thing absolutely ABSORBS speed bumps!
However - I agree with LOCO - Get the 89-93 GT! You can have one of those in great condition for the same price range you're looking in (or less!), and they're one of the best looking models of Mustangs....
