How to calculate wheel height?

How do you calculate how tall a tire/wheel is or its diameter? I'm looking at getting some P265/70R17 Expy. wheels and tires for foul weather.... I want to make sure I'm close on overall diameter..

ok,..........I 'll try to explain this as best I can!

265 is the Millimeters in section width! Muliply that x .03937. This converts it to inches = 10.43305

70 is the ratio - 10.43305 x .70 = 7.303135

Multipy this x (2) = 14.60627

Add in your wheel diameter - 17"

this totals up to - 31.60627

I use Bridgestone P225/75R16 Winter Dualers (through the Tire Rack) on Navagator take-off wheels. They are as close in diameter to the F1's as I could find, plus they're narrower which helps in deep snow. I put 500# of sand and salt in a 'crib' over the rear axle and get around fine all winter.

Hey Jeff

It would be cheaper to buy this Cavalier from me then to buy winter tires. I guarantee this car will last through at least the winter.

Actually, there is an easier and faster way:

tire width x tire height (in hundreths) / 25.4 (mm to inch conversion factor) x 2 + rim height

i.e. 295 x .45 = 132.75 / 25.4 = 5.226AndSoOn x 2 = 10.452AndSoOn + 18 = 28.452AndSoOn

Okay Okay, maybe this method just saves you 2 total digits typed, LoL!
