Questions on steam cleaning engine?

I have an 01 with 20.000 miles, and I need my engine bay steamed cleaned badly!!. I have concerns though because Shawn at JDM told me that when you ice the intake or steam clean the engine, it causes the coil packs to deteriorate and work poorly. I don't want to have to replace those because they are a rip off! But if you try to keep the plugs and coil packs from getting wet, how the hell are you going to clean the engine bay? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Do you guys spray the engine with simple green in order to get rid of oil and grease? Please help! Do you just wrap a plastic around the cold air kit?

Thanks

Just be careful around the coil packs and you will be fine........hell most of the dirty area probably won't be around them anywho.

Soap, the only problem is when you are spraying the block down with that high pressure spray gun it will be nearly impossible not to get the coil packs wet.

I realize that......you can get them wet just don't soak the chit out of them by leaving the spray on the for along time with direct pressure.

Hey guys,

I know i am not an L owner, BUT...my truck does have coil packs.. I had a VERY bad experience cleaning my engine. I got the coil packs too wet and ruined one of them. Long story short my truck ran terribly and i was pissed! Took it to the dealer and it was replaced free under warranty, needless to say i will be more careful cleaning the engine bay. Although i had dpone this several times before with no problems, this made me more cautious, i htink i will try and wrap them in baggies or something, just my two cents!

Good question Tiamat. I think you can wrap a plastic bag around it with bungee cords or tie downs at the end to keep the water from seeping in

Does the bubber piece that connects onto the filter and goes into the fender come off easy? Maybe you can take that off. Does water just beade off the rubber piece?
