Question 2 or 4# pulley for street?

hey, just got a new 02 lightning, want to add more boost, what is the best pulley for a daily driven truck? I hear people saying that even adding 2# is to much, while some have 6# daily driven trucks, so whats the deal? how much can the lightning motor take? the truck really doesn't make any boost unless you get on it right? so i wouldnt think that just adding a larger pulley would hurt anything unless you romp on it at every street light. i would like to put a 4# pulley on the truck, but i dont want to kill it, those who have 4# pulleys how many miles have you put on with it?
oh, how long should i wait until i put the pulley on? my truck only has around 100miles on it.

there is no such thing as too much.

IMHO, get the 4 or the 6, skip the 2.

me personally I'd get the 10

seriously though, I ran the 6 lower with the 1.5 upper on my truck as a daily driver with no problems except excessive tire wear.

you may get more wheelspin with the 6 than with the 4 though, just requires a little more finesse when accelerating.

good luck.

later,
chris

I run the 2lb and just a JDM street chip, truck feels alot better. Probably won't run a 12 with this set up though.

wkuper11,
go with the 4# pulley, if you get the 2# you'll end up spending more $$$ to get the 4# anyway.......I did ....JR

I originally got the 2lb. Now have 4lb. Love it. Going back to a 2lb for winter driving though. Sucks up gas now, just wait till winter is here with the 4lb. Really gonna suck it up.

2 or 4 lower

I just went through the 2 or 4 lb lower thing, a finally went with the 4. I think the chip tune and plugs make a big difference with what you can get away with. I had JDM give my a nice safe street tune set up for 93 octane and the truck runs fantastic. Todd

I am getting ready to order the same. All i have now is a old superchip and a Airraid filter.

Going to order the following in the next few weeks.

4#, maybe 6 not sure yet
Plugs
90 MM
New program for chip
boost bypass

Not sure what else i should do at the start.

Best run with my current setup is a 13.3.

My 22's are going on soon, so not sure how that is going to effect my gear on the street.

I waited untill 3,000 miles on my 01 L to put on a 2#, then a month later a 4#. On my 02 L I put the 4#, 12" filter kit, & a JLP Diablo chip on when I bought it. I have since replaced the 4# JLP pulley with a 4# JDM caged pulley assembly. I have a 6# JDM bolt-on pulley I've used as well, but am a little wary of using it with pump gas & the temp/humidity conditions in Alabama in the summer. With all that said I'd suggest the 4# as my first choice for daily street use.

there's no need to wait for the pulley

I would buy an interchangable unit so you can swap them if you want to later on. there not much more expensive and its a nice way to add more boost for if you want to race.

I would wait til the 1k mark....give it a little more time to seat the rings properly before upping the combustion temps so much.
