Question Performance firction or Hawk??

Time for new brakes and I have read several post on the Hawk pads and the performance friction Z rated pads and I am leaning to the PF Z rated pads; because I can get then at the local Auto Zone and they will give me the Lifetime warranty. I definitely want a better pad, that has a great bite and less fade. The stock Ford pad does not give you this. Anyone running these pads have any comments please post then because I know some of you have tested the PF and Hawk products. If Hawk has a better pad let me know which pad it is and I will definitely order some. The autozone/PF pads are just real convenient.

Thanks

Several years ago, I used both brands on my Z281LE. They throw a lot of black dust bot are OK as pads go. I'll bet though, that the "life-time" warranty does NOT include 'wear'.

Btw, several L guys have used the Ceramic(not sure of the name) from NAPA and have been very pleased--less nasty dust.

The PF pads will put on a LOT of dust and it'll show after one or two days of driving.

The Hawk pads won't dust much but if you are in a lot stop and go traffic, they will start to squeel. The remedy for the squeel is easy to fix - several back to back high speed stops and it's gone.

The braking is similar for both although the Hawk pads will bite better when cold.

I have been trying to decide between the Hawks or the ceramic pads. I got the part # for the Hawks, anyone have the # for our trucks for Napa ceramic. Thanks,

Jon

I just put HPS pads on my truck and they work well. It was a compromise I would rather have the HB+... They do squeal on in town driving a little. Like Spike said a few high speed stops and squeaking stops. I am pleased with the Hawk HPS.

I'm running the PF's; and I can certainly agree with the dusting being a bit much. However, the braking seems quite a bit better than stock. My only concern is that the pads seem to be more harsh on the rotor than stock.

Both pads are more aggressive than the stock pads but for regular driving, the rotors will wear the pads, not the other way. If you take the Lightning to a road course, get the heat up in the pads and work them, then the rotors will get worn. Nothing bad though. Besides both the pads are rotors are consumables.

I've run both the PF "Z" rated and the Hawk HPS on my truck.

The PF turned the wheels grey in a couple of hours of stop and o driving. They were completely worn out after 6K miles.

I switched to the Hawk HPS pads and they work great. They stop just as well as the PF, and hardly dust at all by comparison.
