05 Lightning

Just recieved the Sept/Oct Motor Trend Truck Trend. In it they have a picture of the new body style 04 F-150 during testing. Now relax, because it a spy shot with heavy camouflage. "They" say it will have a more aggressive look, with a cross between the F-350 Tonka concept and the SuperDuty trucks. Then it says....and I quote......................................
"In addition, the F-150 Lightning with a twin-supercharged DOHC 5.4L V-8 is also planned for 05"
That great news as far as I am concerned, my 01 will be paid for in 05

Many Many workers from Roush ford which is working on the supposed engine in question come into my store for lunch,, they are not allowed to say much to me, but they always talk with me about my truck and tell me to save my pennies,, this is a very relieable source for me, also stated to expect much much more power for the 05 year I personally can't wait,,, we can only hope the body style is as good

I hope the price stays pretty much in line with the current model. It'll be hard for me to justify buying a $40,000.00 pickup over a sports car in that price range.

Does anyone here besides me doubt this info. I'm not doubting that the magazine printed it, but what the hell is TWIN SUPERCHARGED?

I just don't see how or why ford would do that??? for what reason? and wouldn't it be cost prohibitive overkill?

why not just one larger or more efficient blower?

is it possible that the writer of the article meant to say something like "TWIN SCREW SUPERCHARGED" rather than "TWIN SUPERCHARGED"

just a thought. I certainly am hoping for lots more power and great styling inside and out too, but i'm not holding my breath for "twin superchargers"

just my .02

later,
chris

Ford already has a few twin supercharged cars in their family. Aston Martin and Jaguar use them in a few of their vehicles. Outside of ford, mercedes and Bentley also use this setup. No big deal but the L will cost $40,000. And a L will never be worth $40 grand. It's a reg cab truck for crap sake! Ford has us by the *****. And the L is not a limited vehicle anymore. I see as many 2nd gen L as i see mustang gt's now. Ford---Not good!!! Our economy is in the hole now, and were paying $35 large for for a 23 year old mustang. Sometimes i wish it was 1993 again and i can buy a 5.0L notchback for $13 grand out the door. Oh well!

superfords - I'm with you on that one. I don't see really what Ford would gain with a twin S/C truck. Astin Martin and Jaguar, fine they're supposed to be more *rare* or *exotic* type vehicles and the price tag shows.

Tiamat - I know what you mean, I'm seeing way more lightnings driving around then I want. I have to get rid of my daily beater so I can get an SVT Focus or Contour, at least those I only see in a blue moon (or at the dealer in the case of the Focus)

BS !!

There are hundreds of thousands of GTs. and less than 20 thousand Lightnings total

There were over 62,000 in 1994 and 68,000 GTs made in 1988 alone

The good old days. When $13,000 bought a new 5.0 mustang, and 3:55 gears, pulleys, and a Hurst shifter would bring mid 13s. I still wish I had my 89' sedan...................
