Hoosier Tire Use Info
I spoke with Steve Hudspeth (very nice and very professional) @ Hoosier today to try and clear up some things in my mind about their 16x28 tires. Here are a few notes.
1. The DOT and the Slick have almost identical compounds. He didn't really see how the slick could hook better than the DOT. He said the biggest problem he sees is people putting alot of heat in a tire on a greasy track. Hot greasy tire and hot greasy track equals compromised traction. (Something alot of us already know but somebody just getting into racing may not0
2. He told me to just give the tire a little extra burnout the first time. I guess he doesn't subscribe to the 20 second burn and overnight cure theory of M/T.
3. His experience with the DOTs showed that 11-13 lbs pressure seemed to work the best.
4. Forget trying to take temp readings across the tread; they will never be even and only confuse you.
5. For the DOT tire he said 10-12 inch rims, but, 12 would give the optimum tire profile.
Just thought I would share w/everyone.

RAN mine at 18 and ran 13.12 lowered it to 16 and ran slower and spun, looking at my tires the next night had nice peal on edges but still had the rubber tit nubs in center, tells me to much weight on tires not enough air, tire seems to be colapsing at launch so i think I'll start at 20# next time out
I run mine at 17 psi
anything under 15 psi and I am all over the track from half track on to the traps.
I borowed a set of the 28x10-16 slicks when I raced at FFW in Virginia. I cut much better 60 foot times and they hooked much better than the DOT's. I think it is the fact that the widest rim I have found is 10 inches wide and the section width is 14.5 inches. These two factors cause the tread to crown way to much.
I hate the new Hoosirer Quick Time Pro's

I ran mine at 14.5psi and had no problems hooking or on the big end. I could get 1.67-1.70 60 foot times as a average on my stock stall convertor. If you try 14.5 after you do a burnout they are around 15.0 and will do fine. Anything less than 14 and you will need screws & tubes....
