Hello there! New '02 L Owner
Hey all!
I am a 30 year old Information Technology Supervisor of a Manufacturing firm in SE Wisconsin. Recently my divorce was finalized, I got a raise at work, re-enlisted in the Air Force Reserves for another 6 years (because they were offering a re-enlistment bonus for computer people), paid off the CC's, and I was ahead on my car loan for my '99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTX. Due to the combination of all those factors, I wanted and was able to buy a new truck. I was actually going to bite on the '03 Chevy Silverado SS model (lock one in at the dealer, they are coming out next Spring... and they look very nice), but the more I read I found out Chevy supposadley has problems in their Vortec engines (piston slap) and they are being jerks about it, and also the SS is going to be closer to $40k. So, I studied up and was very interested in the Lightning (have known about them since getting blown away by one in my GP a couple years ago!). I figured, why not save a bunch of money, and get something faster and better looking! Searched all the dealers and found a Black '02 L at Griffen in Waukesha. Bought it the day after my divorce was final! I've had it for 13 days now and love it... I never knew a vehicle could be this fun! Even bone stock it is so fast. I have already had fun with: Mid 80's Corvette, Camaro Z28, and Dodge Shelby Charger... beat 'em all. I can hardly wait to begin modifying this beast and really get the potential out of it. So far all I did was put a drop-in K&N into it. Next I'm thinking a cat-back exhaust... from reading here it won't make much difference but I want to enhance the sound and looks a bit. So, I think I will bite on the JDM Silver Bullet today... love that sound clip they got and those tips! (was thinking seriously about Bassani as well). Anyone out there with advice before I take the plunge with my CC? After the exhaust I am going to get a chip, then a throttle body, then electric fan. The biggest thing for me is I am going to have a "sleeper" L... I am going to keep it completely stock looking inside and out. I know a pulley would be great as well, but what's the limit on lb. I should go while maintaining the truck as a daily driver... I don't want to affect the reliability or have to run 100 octane gas either! Would a 2lb. or 3lb. pulley be a good compromise? Any help you all could give me would be appreciated! Actually, I have learned a ton already from lurking on the boards here, this is a great active forum! I look forward very much to being part of the L community!

Jeff, I have an 01 that I use as a daily driver. I have a 4 3 lower pulley. I personally wouldn't go any higher than that. Unless you are just dying to get a cat back right now, wait a little. Start with a cold air kit, 4# lower pulley, a chip tuned properly, tr6 plugs, a shift kit, and a 4 x 4 tranny pan, and a boost bypass kit. I have those mods and just now ordered a silver bullet> It is basically JDM's stage 1 and all I need is the TB and E-fan in order to have the full stage 2.
