Remote Keyless Entry
I'd like to know what the relationship is between the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module and the PATS and the Key Fobs.
Could I get a used RKE and plug it in and work? I wouldn't think so, at least because I wouldn't think the key fob would work with it.
What if I had a used RKE and the key fobs that worked with it, then would it work?
Or, perhaps finally, when you replace an RKE, do you have to go to a dealer and have something programmed to make it all work again.
Thanks,
LT

I think you're talking about the keypad on the door, and that's not what I'm asking about.
From reviewing the schematics, there is a separate electronics module called an RKE. I'm assuming this is what receives the wireless signal from the key fob.
I'm guessing that the RKE and key fob either have to be a matched pair, or they have to be programmed to work together.
The next step once you have the key fob and RKE "talking" to each other, it does anything need to be done (programmed) so the RKE will work with the PATS, or is that not needed.
Thanks

If you are talking about adding a touchpad and it working with your keyless entry...yes it will work. I did it on my 02. you use the code that is one the box underneath the drivers side console..if you are talking about the cip in the key..for starting the vehicle the key has to be inserted to crank,..the kepad just opens the door....the work in conjunction in that they both will unlock the door...hope this helps
