Need Help to buy used "L" in Norfolk

Ok here's the deal

It's an 01 red with soft Tonnue cover has 815 miles.

Dealer wants $29999

I said $24 even knowing that invoice is 28 on a new truck

I heard the manager say no from his office. The salesman admitted the former owner purchased the truck there and traded it on on another truck. So they have already made some $$ on that truck twice.

I figure he'll be calling me before lunch asking me if "I have thought about the truck"

What is the max I should expect to pay for this Truck?

It's not Kimnach is it? That's where I bought mine. I don't know if my salesman can help you or not. He works on the new lot. His name is Gordon Walker, he's a great guy.

Kimnach is on VB Blvd.
On Military Hgwy, it's either Freedom or Cavalier.

Question

I think the 815 miles would make me want to run a CarFax.
If for no other reason than to find out work done and find out who the owner was. Maybe it was just the Dealer's brother-in-law.

If everything checks out, remember the dealer has a right to make money on it as many times as he can get his hands on it.

Definately get a report! That could be a bad sign. Never know... and it can't hurt to check. But that's just my $0.02

Good Idea guys.

the thought did cross my mind "What if its a Lemon"

Will carfax tell if its been to the dealer 30 times for repairs?

I know all dealers are rip-off artists but how does Freedom fall out ?

Have the dealer do this:

1) carfax

2) Have them run the "Ford" service history. It'll show you any and all ford dealer work that has been done on it in the last year. They may act like your out in left field or they don't know what your talking about. But they do. I've had it done by my close friend who is a Ford salesman.

and if those turn out ok?

Look the vehicle over really good for any damage. Look inside the fenders, under the truck up along the bed, front, rear, everywhere!

If all that turns out OK, try to settle on a price somewhere between the 24k you asked for & what a brand new 2002 would cost ya. (x-plan price ??$29,300???)

Somewhere in the neighbor hood of $26-$27k is what I'd be guessing. I mean if your that close to the cost of a new one and you could be the original owner? Why compromise?

WOT

Yes, more importantly it will tell you who the vehicle was titled to.
You may then contact the person directly and ask 'what's up?'.

Of course, if it is the dealer's brother-in-law, you may still get flim-flammed depending on their relationship.

As far as price, any new vehicle drops 10% when the back tires go over the dealer's curb and a Lightning is no exception. If they are 30k new, that one can't be more than 27k.
(That truck is also a year short on warranty, regardless of the miles)
