Help on gas/octane levels...

Hey all, had my lightning for one week so far, and noticed pinging. I'm FAIRLY certain the dealer put the cheap stuff in it BUT heres my question. Since I've had my lightning ive been hunting around for higher octane gas. Being up so high in altitude and have a supercharger I know I need higher octane (I live in Utah btw..) I CANNOT find anything higher then 91.

Do you think 91 is sufficient or do I have to add some sort of octane booster on EVERY single fill up? That could get very expensive. Once again I do already hear my engine pinging (detonating) so i'm already scared but im sure the dealer put in cheap crap.

I just want to hear you opinions, I wish they sold at least 93 around here but no one does.

Thanks

Z

91 is OK

Just find a good station and stick with them. If you really want to bump up your octane look up toluene on this board (or just search for octane). It's cheap to boost, just a pain.

PS: Anyone know of a cheap/easy way to actually measure octane in your tank?

Get a 2-way chip from one of our Lightning tuners. Have one side tuned for 91 octane/street driving and one tuned for a higher octane level if you plan to 1/4 mile race.

As Coldie said, get a gal. or two of either toluene or zylene and raise your octane for racing. I use Torco Unleaded Accelerator to raise my octane when I hit the strip. Do a search as there is mucho info on all three of these.

I buy the cheapest 91 octane I can find and it has worked great on my 2000 and my 2002, even at the tracks. If yours is pinging, and you have put in 91 octane, have the dealer check it out.
