Water pump/fan question..

When pulling the stock fan off of the water pump I'm sure it is still possilbe to use the stock water pump without going to the Cobra R pump. My question is how does the fan attach to the pump? I see the four bolts but they look like they hold the pulley on. Does the fan somehow unscrew from the pump?

there is a big (as in pipe wrench big) nut that couples the fan clutch assembly to the stock water pump.

Looky here.

Just to elaborate...........

The fan screws into that rusty looking thing in the picture Sir Speedy posted.

Beleive it is a 1 7/16" nut on the 01's (not sure 99-00).

Just in case you cannot hold the pump still while taking it off?

This link will show a tool I made to do the job and NOT damage the pump.

Is that fan nut righty tighty or lefty loosey You guys most likely saved me around a hundred bucks. I'll just use the stock pump with the new electric fan. I really don't think the $$$ per HP is good on a R waterpump

When looking at the front of the motor, you will hold the pump still and turn the fan counter clock wise.

Before you go thru the trouble of making a tool, try to loosen it as is. I've seen some that will and some that won't.

BTW: I did'nt have BIG wrench so I just used my pipe wrench, got it snug and smacked it one time with a hammer. Then it turned off pretty easy.
