Dealership time... going back to stock question!

Well, for the 5th time since I purchased my L on April 16th, 2002, the coolant system has burst and sprayed the whole truck with coolant and left the resevoir empty... The other 4 times this happened, I was stock. It hadn't happened in 3 months, but it's back... it's PISSING ME OFF!

Now the problem is I have to take it to a dealership where a "K&N will void the warranty"... so tonight, I'm pulling everything off EXCEPT the FT Valve Body and TR6 Plugs. Will I have any problems with running the TR6's for a short time with stock boost and programming? will the FT Valve body be super noticeable??? I can't remove that as I don't have an inch pound torque wrench.

I'm so pissed about this crap... uhg... time to start wrenching... what are your thoughts on the above, and what about taking my 4lb pulley off... I've heard that it can be tough?! certainly not as bad as the stocker?! yes? no?

HELP!

JDM Cold Air
JDM Flip Chip
JDM Boost Bypass
JDM Interchangeable 4lb
TR6 Plugs
PSP Valve Body

Plugs will be fine. The F/T valve body should also. Back to stock you have the timing retard at the shift so the kit should be undetectable. No computer scan will detect it either.

Thanks for the reassurance... I'm going to start today...

I think I might start talking about "Lemon Law" with the dealership... 5 repairs on the same problem in a year (let alone 3.5 months!) constitutes a brand new vehicle in WI...

crap... maybe I should pull everything out... GRRR!

I have no idea...it's total crap, but they are insistant about it and told me they would black list me if I put one on. The Service manager told me that "the oil used on K&N filters destroys the teflon coating on the pistons over time"... I didn't know the piston's had a teflon coating... more over, it seems strange that I hadn't heard about this in every performance magazine there is... They are just ****s I think... In case this turns into a lemon law battle, I'm going to take off work and pull EVERYTHING out... I'll borrow an inch-pounder from my buddies shop...

I do not look forward to the rest of my day!

Hey beefcake,

I take it you're going back to Hiller again. I've heard better things of Griffin. Aren't you closer to there anyways?

Let us know how the caged pulley is for removal. I've not heard that it's easy.

Beefcake

Heres what you do..you tell the serv manager to take you in his office..Call his rep on speaker phone..And ask his Rep if it is legal to claim that a K/N filter is going to void the warranty.

Ask him to show you in the owners manual where it says not to use it and then threaten that if he voids your warranty you will see him in court not the dealership..

If that doesnt work..Show him one of your arms and put his neck in it and FLEX!!!

LOL

I recommend this:

Go to another dealer that will be more lenient in helping you.

Still, take off the mods , but damn, leave the K&N in. If they have a Steeda at the dealer go pop the hood and show them where it has a K&N AND the sticker!

A k&n filter will not void your warranty. If you have to bring your vehicle in for the same repair 3 times within the first 12,000 miles you can claim lemon law. If you are on your 5th that's fudged up! If you are over 12,000 miles now, get a printout of you service history and it will tell you the milage when you were in your 3rd time. Good luck

CRAP!!!!!

Good ole interchangeable pulley!!!!!!!!!!

After 2 hours last night, working and talking on the phone with JDM having Shawn tell me that it just takes muscle I rounded the head right off the 3/4" bolt on the pulley...

Now I'm ****... I sent the truck into the dealership with all mods...I don't have time to be without it. Looks like warranty will be gone. Thanks JDM... thanks a lot...

The only was to get the pulley off now it to pull the shroud and engine fan off and buy a $60 2-3/4" SOCKET from a hardware store and crank on it with that... (fits over the whole assembly)

I used a 3/4 hex socket last night with a 24" breaker bar... couldn't budge it, and Shawn said he's done it 100's of times, it just takes muscle, so I added a 2 fool pipe onto that and was rocking it trying to break it... and it broke... broke the bolt head...

BTW, Animal, I had it towed to Griffin... we shall see...

I'M VERY PISSED!

Holy crap! That sucks man!

I was talkin to pete tagtow at the show last sunday, he said they pretty much don't care about mods as long as they're not what caused the problem. The bursting of the cooling system sounds more like a bad clamp or something than a pulley chip problem. Plus it was happening even before you got the pulley right? You might be ok.

Even so, pete said nothing about voiding the warranty, only that it may not be covered.

Granted he's one of the salesmen, he's not in service.

So I take it you do not personally endorse caged pulleys anymore?

It must bring a tear to the eye to see the L behind a tow truck.

YES! I coated it well... as well as my plugs...

After a closer inspection, I was cranking so hard on it that it BENT the torque converter STOP STRAP I installed...

oh well... one of my long time friends know the service writer and a mechanic at a local dealership, so I took it there... they told me as long as the mods didn't cause the problems, they would take care of it... so I should be ok...

still upset though... now I have this pullet stuck on there and the bolt is rounded off... looks like poop...
