I was coming to work today and al of the sudden what looked like dead skin from a sun burn started coming out the vents

It only did it for a minute but man it made a mess in the truck.

I went home at lunch and drove around some and its not doing it anymore

Is this the same thing you guys are talking about?

I doubt i would let a dealer take the dash out, at least not the ones around here.

Whats it hurt to not have the coating?

Thanks
Johnie

Do a search on the internet for Technical Service Bulletins. I saw that one just before I bought my truck. There is a mess of them.

HEVYRESQ: No you're not crazy. Many of us have had this too. I've seen a few flakes on my 2000 usually under the brake pedal. My truck is un-modded and only has about 4600 miles on it. It's also always garaged. As long as it isn't going to hurt anything I'd rather put up with it then let them touch my truck.

Bad News

I have a 2002 True Blue Lightning and that exact scenario happened to me although it looked like cigerette ash on the dash. the cause of this is there is a coating on the Heater Plenum (ductworking) it is comeing off.

The way to remedy this is take it to the Ford dealer you trust (if there is such place) they will take your dash down to about 20,000,000 pieces, replace the plenum put it back together and still have a hand full of nuts and bolts that they have no clue were they came from. If you have any questions call 1-800-463-3612 ask for Norm in service he will provide you with the service bulliton number.

TSB 02-12-1 - White Flakes coming from A/C Vents

Had the same problem - it is due to excess brazing flux used in manufacturing of the condenser. The dealer will blow your ducts out and clean the interior of the vehicle. However, the flakes will likely come back but after awhile they go away.

When they cleaned mine I was left with a chirping blower motor - moral of the story: Don't bother taking it in for service. Clean the interior of your vehicle until the flakes go away.
