Wheels getting "sand blasted" by road dirt and losing the clearcoat?

My wheels on my 99 have shown some wear from dirt as stated in the heading. This is on the leading edge of the spoke toward the rim. On the brink of warrany end I had them replaced by dealer. I'm pleased by the replacement, but wondering if the problem happens often. I have 27K on the truck.
Thanks!
Tom

Wow wheels replaced under warranty because of the paint wearing off? That sounds like an awful nice thing, I sure hope I can get mine replaced if that ever happens.

one way to stop that from happening is to spray your wheels with a quick detailer or spray wax, this also helps keep down on the break dust

if you have somthing on your truck that has clear coat on it, wax it. I know you are thinking waxing is only for paint... WRONG! When you wax the painted surface of your truck, you are axing the clearcoat. You are protecting what is protecting your truck. Why not wax what is protecting your wheels?

If the dealer is replacing the wheels because of the clearcoat coming off, why bother waxing

MIne are doing that with a tad under 24k miles, i would venture to say your dealer was just taking care of ya =)

I might take it to the dealer and see if they would cover mine (course they might charge me for hte ones that have been curbed even though every spoke has the paint/clear coming off.

ANyone else had theirs replaced under warranty for this problem??

Crazy,
My wheels were in perfect shape except for the loss of clearcoat. I don't think they would have done anything for me if they were, plus they had a few Roush Mustangs that lost the finish recently also, I think that might have softened them up a bit.
I wax my wheels once in a while, I think dirt and sand is a bit tougher than even the all powerful "Zaino" in the long run

i have 15k miles on my truck took mine to the dealer, they told me that it was normal wear even though i dont drive it in the rain or snow, plus i remove the wheels to clean and wax once a month, the problem is that the spokes are in the air stream so far that they get sand blasted by dirt and dust, thats one of the reasons im getting an 03 because of the new rim design among other things!!

I did have one wheel replace after a week old because I chipped the clearcoat while changing a tire. I said it was like that from the factory, anyway, they replaced it, but like I said, it was only a week old
