Question Windshield replacement cost

Sorry guys, search didn't work for me...

What should I expect to pay to get my 01 L's windshield replaced? Got hit by a rock this weekend and a crack started growing instantly.

I have $500/500 deductible and Texas doesn't require insurance companies to pick up the cost like some states do, so I'll be paying for it out of pocket.

thanks,

Rough costs as I remember thanks to Flatsman earlier in the year...

$300 for an off-brand.
$400-$500 for factory replacement.

Betcha can't tell the difference.

Bummer

I know what you are going through, but in Ma glass replacement is covered by insurance.

I would go with the Ford/Carlite glass, after all the glass is what keeps the air bags in and keeps the cab rigid.

Sorry Rich, but I beg to differ.........

After having replaced m a n y windshields, I found that the factory glass takes rocks and stones from the highway ALOT better than the cheap replacements, no chips, no cracks

After racing at Norwalk I wiped of the shoe polish and 2 days later I noticed that Ithought I had done a poor job of cleaning the windshield. The little white specs i thought I missed were the polish ground in to the hundreds of small chips....
May need to get new glass soon just to be able to clean ....

I had to have my 01's w/s replaced in May on my L's 'anniversary. I have $500 deductable too. I called my State Farm agent and she contacted a w/s shop and got me a good price--$180 for a PPG w/s that looks exactly like the OEM one. They replaced it in the parking lot at work--took about 45 mins. but you can't drive it for 4 hours and don't get it wet for 24 hours.

Gator:

I bet you're right, then.

Flatsman threw a rock while driving behind him this year and cracked mine. The CarLite was $350 installed. He said I could have done the factory glass for about $100 more, but I'd have to wait until the next day. Didn't see much difference visually. I probably would have been willing to pay the $100 but it wasn't meant to be.

I don't know about the variations by manufacturer, but you'd think they'd have to be somewhat comparable in strenth and quality.

Not really my realm of expertise, though...

Rich
