blown plugs, whos had em
I think I may have blown a plug on the way home. Luckily it happened less than a mile from the house so I was able to limp home. As I was making a corner I heard this nasty pop and then the worst sounding exhaust leak ever. I immediately stopped and popped the hood to find what looked like oil residue around the second from the front, drivers side coil pack. Earlier today during lunch I noticed that my truck was making a ticking noise, and I dismissed it as an exhaust leak that I was going to look into this weekend (Damn!). Is that what a blown plug acts like? Like I said, I limped home with the truck shaking and making that terrible exhaust leak sound where I'm now waiting for it to cool down be fore I poke around to investigate any further. With 50K + miles I'm way out of warranty, so whats the damage gonna run? Am I looking at replacing the entire head? Any light that anyone who has had similar problems can shed would be appreciated.
yup sounds like a blown plug. I have never had a blown plug before just mine were in pieces with 3 nickle sized holes in 3 of my pistons. You might be able to get away with a head asembly but why not just rebuild the motor lol
The coil pack just pulled right off the plug. The bracket that holds it down was broken off. There was a major tear the entire length of the rubber boot and the spring was distended. I was like hell yeah it's only the coil

and then...
I pulled the plug out - without having to unscrew it...bad sign. The electrode was smashed all to hell and a chunk of the ceramic insulation was missing (somewhere on top of the piston I'm sure).
I could also see that the threads are wasted in the head.
So now that the verdict is in, who knows what this will set me back?
New head?
Coil Pack?
Labor?
This sux!
