Talking Almost IMPOUNDED!!

Talk about luck!!

I was leaving my buildings parking lot(exclusive to my shop) when I noticed that I was the only person around, just me and about 400' of blacktop! This is rare as the is always at least one car left when I leave. It was late evening and I figured I would do a small burnout. Well, I reassured the fact that it is impossible to do a small burnout and went on do one for my personal record book. A complete deep into 3rd gear before letting off special!!
With the tailwind it was impossible to see anything in front of me for what seemed like 1/4 mile.
Well as the smoke cleared I saw the cop!!!! Right at the parking lot entrance!! He said he saw smoke COMING OVER THE BUILDING and went to investagate and could not see me untill the smoke cleared. He asked me to turn off the truck and get out.
I complied, we walked around the truck and he asked about my firefighters ID hanging from the rear view. I filled him in and he LET ME GO!! Its good to see all cops aren't bad. And I will have to believe my service with the fire dept. saved my truck and my as#.

Sorry so long.

What's wrong with doing a burn out in an empty parking lot?

It was on private property though. I thought cops couldn't do anything (impound, give a ticket).

Say the cop did something... Would it have been a ticket or would have they impounded it?

I am also under the impression that a cop can't do that on private property unless the property owner wishes to press charges. I still say that you must have gotten really lucky with that one. Must be nice to have the money to burn off a perfectly good set of tires!

With that much smoke, i'm surprised they didn't get the EPA hounds after you for violating air polution standards! I would definately have to say that you were extremely lucky either way, since a **** cop could have turned it into a nasty situation. I tell myself that i'm going to try it one day, but i'll probably just wait till my stock F1's are worn to start tearing them up with burnouts

Legal burnouts - just go to a drag strip and say to heck with the 60' and ET.

Thumbs down

I don't know how it works anywhere else, but the law here in Tennessee makes no distinction between public and private property. If Johnny Lawman spots you behaving in a manner he deems unsafe, he can write you up.

It was funny. But what we think is funny rarely coincides with what the police find amusing while they are on the job. Trust me, I know. All I am saying is be careful. There seems to be an outbreak of Lightning owners with expensive garage (in my case lawn, right Tampa) decorations because they are losing their licenses left and right and there aren't that many of us to begin with.

Wrongo.....there are some minor differences on other crimes on public or private property, but NOT traffic, that is the same everwhere.
So don't everyone go doing drag strip burnouts at your local shopping center. Personally, I could care less. But there are officers out there that do write tickets for that. I probably either commend you are laugh at you depending on the results. I probably would come HI though just to see what was going on.

Up here there's a Burger king that has cruise in night. Right in the parking lot they have the burnout box. Since it's private property, and the owner is the one running it, no one cares

Hey SVTGirl... how close are you to mesa, AZ? If you're close, keep an eye out for a buddy of mine with a black on black leather top chevelle. I want to put the hurt on him but he moved down there before I got the L. Show him your taillights for me mmkay?

That is if you're close

They do cruises at the Sonic here before they all head out for the street races.
I haven't seen your friend but I will watch out for him. I am fairly close to Mesa.
