Caged has the factory pulley support bracket and uncaged is just a pulley that bolts to the balancer...Smart question actually

silver you better do a search on pullies. Hopefully I'll get an answer to my question before things get out of hand. It's basically a matter of choice of what you prefer. Sort of like pcm chips..

Removing the aftermarket caged pulley is nothing short of a nightmare be sure and have a large pipe wrench, cheater bar and a couple of friends handy before you descide to do this. Good luck!!

Caka has said it all

I had the same problem. I did get the pulley off finally. I had to use a Good 14mm allen and a 3' cheater bar.
After I got the pulley off the truck I had to cut the pulley off the cage assy. That was a B****!!!!!!!!!!!

I also know of 3 others the are in my area that have had the same problem.

Now I had a CAGELESS pulley. Live and LEARN......

Since you live in the Florida Keys(I lived in Key West in 1964 & 1965), I'll chime in..........

The OEM, caged pulley is a heavy beast and as many have shown by putting many miles and 1/4 mile runs on their Ls, the eng. isn't 'hurt' by removing it. Also, if you were stranded on US 1 with a broken accessory belt; you'd have to get the cage and OEM pulley off before you could replace the accessory belt. With an aftermarket cageless pulley, all you'd have to do would be to easily remove the s/c belt and then the 'a' belt.

I have 31,300 miles on my 01L and have had a cageless pulley on for 28,000 miles.

How about some 'groupa' steaks or Florida crawfish with some Key limes on the side?
