Raced a 98 Z28 which I sold to buy my Lightning

Last night I spotted the 98 Z28 6sp. I sold to buy my lightning. I had added some bolt ons such as a lid, borla, ram air mod, hurst shifter, among a few others. The guy turned it into an SS and told me he added pulleys, MAF.

We lined up. To my amazement I pulled strong and was ahead. When about 100 mph came around I was way ahead!!! I was somewhat surprised as to how much of a lead I took because my camaro ran strong. After we stopped to talk ad he told me his rear tires were bold and shoks worn out!. But it felt good to spank my old car!!!!! I still have admire those ls1 engines, they are really strong and really breath in the upper rpm range. Maybe someday when I encounter a more heavilly modded ls1 whith heads and such the story might be different. I am glad I invested in a Lightning.

The 98-00 LS1's are slower than the newer 01-02's. In 01 they got a different intake and cam I believe. I have no problem outrunning them. Ive lost to only one 02 Anniversary SS Z28 (Red with the silver flag like decals). He had a head and cam package, long tubes, 3:73's, lid and airbox cutout, nitto's, plus a few other nick nacks. He beat me by a car length to 120 three different times. He pulled out a handful of time slips and the car is running 12.02's @ 116! Im running 12.20's. On the juice he turns 11.077 @ 126! Thank god he didnt spray me, it would have gotten ugly real quick! I respect the LS1's, with simple cheap mods(lid, cutout, filter, and maf ends.) they are mid-high 12 second rides.

How are you running such low ET's (12.2's) with the mods you have? Can you please tell me which JDM program you are running? You have a really strong truck!! Are those times on slicks or F1's?

brasil- My truck went 13.5 @ 102 bone stock with only 800 miles on the clock. I installed a JDM warm weather program,2# pulley, and K&N air filter and the truck went 12.9 @ 106. I then had the chip reburned with JDM's J69 program, installed the 4# lower and metco upper, denso's,magnaflow muffler,160* stat, and cutout the lower end of my air box and made two passes. The best being the 12.22 @ 110(It finally hooked like a ****!), the other was a 12.3. Ive had a hard time getting traction with the F1's even with a good prepped track. I have a nice vid of an 1/8th mile burnout I did! Ran a 16.xx!! LOL!The12.2 &12.3 passes were on a 60 deg. morning whereas my first trips to the track were late evening in 90 deg. humid weather! All passes were made on the stock F1's with the pressure lowered in them and the truck at full weight with the tailgate down and mirrors folded in. Believe it or not, there are guys hitting the 11's on stock rubber!! How they do it is beyond me, but they do. I have to kinda roll off the line then stab it.
Oh yea, I also run the Royal Purple Racing21 motor oil and their gear oil, this stuff really works!!! Kinda pricey, but you'll notice an immediate improvement in the power dept. Engine also idles smoother and quieter. I have several pics of my Lightning in the galleries if ya wanna check it out. I worry about a rod peeking through the block constantly, but guys here on F150 are running bigger pullies with no problems. Hope this helps ya out!

Oops, almost forgot! Im also running a line mod valve I bought from JL. It really made the shifts quick and firm. It'll break the tires loose in 2nd if your on it and chirps the tires when it shifts.
My truck seems a little weird though. It pulls good off the line and into 2nd, but it pulls really freakin' hard when I hit 3rd gear. 3rd is where I start pulling hard from those pesky LS1's. Ive ridden in my friends Lightning and his doesnt seem as strong in 3rd, but he's only running 2#'s of extra boost.
It may just be me, but it seems the 02 Lightnings may run a little stronger than the 01's. Anybody else notice this?

Thanks for the reply skank dog. I agree with you on the boost depatment. I have a 4# lower pulley and don't want to add any more boost. (better be safe than sorry). The only way I would do it is if I decided to fortify the weak stock internals
