Noise on shift at WOT...

On my shifts at WOT, I hear a very pronounced noised if I have my windows open. The noise I can only describe as sounding like a 'blow off'. High pitched, but not a whistle. I don't know exactly what detonation sounds like, but I'm pretty sure that's not what this is. I do have boost bypass installed, and yes I am chipped (street program, 93 oct). I'm not even sure this noise is *bad*, but I'd like to have an idea of what it is just for piece of mind.

Any ideas?

torque reduction would be my guess.

At WOT with the passenger window down I can hear a funny sound on the 1-2 shift...

I think the sound your hearing is during the 1-2 shift the PCM tells the engine to drop 4 cylinders on the shift, and that's the noise it makes.

I think....

But.... Don't all chips take that out? Or is that a 'race program' attribute?

The 1-2 shift sounds like a wet fart.

It's a combinatioin of the supercharger belt slipping and air intake sound.

The sound I here is definitely coming from the exhaust.

The 'belt + intake air' theory is probably accurate. I've been told that the ribbed belt is actually a design feature in that it allows it to slip. If the belt wasn't allowed to slip that combination of high boost, high torque, and the shift, would make for a nasty occurance.

I had a high pitched noise at the 1 - 2 shift, i put a Gatorback s/c belt on. Now i get a very muted noise at the 1- 2 shift , so my noise was s/c belt related.

i hear yeah

i posted about this a while back. Only does it with the chip in. I talked to Jim about it. He thinks it could possible be the noise of the fan, but wasn't sure. It's kinda like a "whoosh" like you said, like a blow off. You got me.
