Installed Superchip flip chip.....

Holy smokes. I must've instlled it right because the L really pulls better now. My question is that should my revs be higher while I'm cruising and should I feel more of a jerk when shifting gears? The needle was in the redzone too for rpms. Does it sound like I put it in right?

Yup ....

Installation Checklist for Super Chip:

Does it start?

Does it kick you in the a$$ on the 1-2 shift ?

Does it "chirp" the tires?

Does it shift at 5300 RPM ???
(Can you say WAaaaaaaaaaaaa for that S/C whine?)

Congratulations ... You are now CHIPPED !!!!

Don't trust the tach in the car; it is off a fair amount. I believe JDM typically programs the shift point to be at or a little below the factory setting.

Coldie - if your tach shows 5600 you may actually be at 5450....or so I am told.......

If you want to see the real shift RPM, hold down the Odometer Trip button when you start the vehicle.

You can now see it digitally and probably would be more accurate.

But, that's just what I think...

Ford gauges...

Do they really suck that bad? I loved my Saturn Gauges, they showed RPM/speed almost exactly (off by 50RPM at 6400)

Grumble....

$100 to install a chip?!

Oh. . .I understand, that was for the 'picasso' install.

Hell, for a quality install of that caliber. . .$100 is a bargain. I'll bet they remove your computer, clean the contacts really well, install the chip, AND reinstall your computer back in the factory location. They never skip steps or do them out of order. And you get to leave with the FREE piece of mind that comes with each and every 'Picasso' chip install. Man, it's a bargain at twice the price.

Enough of this sarcasm! Tuners should install their chips in the vehicles FREE (if the vehicle is there at the shop). I've dealt with dozens of tuners in the past and NOT ONCE was I asked to pay for a chip installation if my vehicle was in their parking lot. Hell, a technician at SALEEN installed a pair of rear shocks in a Mustang of mine FREE, and even busted one of his tools in the process, and in the end, I got a handshake and a smile and a thank-you. A chip is not like cylinder heads or something major that they should charge for. They aren't using up their own chemicals, materials, or shop supplies. What on GOD's EARTH are they charging $100 for?!

C'mon everybody! We gotta send the message that they can't gouge us loyal consumers like this! Mo' customer service is Mo' betta!!!

Yea Wrongdayj,
Totally know what you're talkin' bout. That is why ive stayed with the tuner's I have now.

I can't even count the number of times of stopped by JJ's shop just because something didnt sound right in the truck. He would stop what he was doing just to keep me happy. Which I am. How many times he took my chip out to get it to my comfort level. Never charged me for them unscheduled visits. No complains yet other than he always seems to clean under my hood with his rag, makes me self-consious of how dirty my engine really is. JK lol.

Getting back to topic, yea once you're "chipped" there really is no way to not be. I love chirpping dem' tires at 2nd shift.

Later, Jesse

That's because it was so slow it didn't have to play "catchup"...

But, our tachs and speedos are off. JL programs his chips to shift at 5450, unless otherwise stated, and even then you're pushing your luck. You just do not need to shift any higher, although 5600 would be a near perfect shift point, in terms of being in the power curve, our engines really don't like that high of an rpm w/ factory internals. Our heads are the same heads as the '99 and up Mustang GT heads, though, and they're good for 6000, so go figure

As for your rpms higher at cruising. I wonder if your torque convertor is locking up properly? If not it'll run a few hundred rpms higher at cruise.

Hey Jesse. I hear that JJ is the guy in this area to go to. Is his work that good? Yeah I'm cruising at 75-80 with a little gas and it's up around 2300 rpm. Doesn't sound right. Was wondering if I was running too lean or rich. Who am I kidding...I don't even know what lean and rich mean.

What did you do for your two different programs on the flip chip? Does it perform well in both settings without any troubles switching over?

Side I= Street...more hp. definite kick in the neck 1st and 2nd shift with some chirping.
Side II= stock for long trips and commuting.
No trouble switching over...I hope it's ok to switch while driving.
