Exclamation Time to mod the '02! Enough Miles Yet?

Okay, I was going to wait till 1500 miles to do this, but I do have 500 miles on the truck (well, will have w/in a week basically), so I'm going to go ahead and mod her.

I'm going w/ a 6# Lower and having my JL Diablo chip reburned. Which means I'm selling the current Lower Pulley I now have. It's listed in the F150Online.com classifieds in case anyone is interested (please see sig. - DO NOT REPLY TO THIS POST WANTING IT...shoot me an email instead).

I'm hoping my '02 will lay down some more smack stock for stock versus my '01 I traded in on it, and naturally more power after the mods. I can't stand being slow anymore (and lemme tell you, once you've had a pullied/chipped L, you will ALWAYS feel slow in a stock one).

I am switching to Royal Purple and waiting till 1500 to 2000 at their (Royal Purple techs) advice, which I always wait till at least 1500 anyhow. They also now have 5w-20, btw.

Curious, bout how many miles did most of you wait before you modded your beasts? This is my 3rd Gen 2, but only the 2nd one I'll be modding.

I did my first oil change at 1500, put synthetic in at 3000 and took it to the track shortly after. I didn't have mods until much later in life but back then there was a long wait for stuff and there wasn't much available. MHO is that a 6lb lower at 500 miles is a little aggressive. Especially if it's a daily driver. It's your truck though so knock yourself out!

Cool

Generally speaking about motors and break-in.

I'd say it depends on two things.

1) What have the first 500 miles of break-in been like? Accel/decel? (The first 100 are most important along with some mild thermocycles)

You want everything to have a chance to seat properly.

2) How long are you going to own it? 100k+ miles? I'd say wait a bit and make sure it all seats.

25Kmiles and under warrenty? Go ahead!

Never too early!

I ran mine the first time with a diablo chip at 180 miles, went a 13.36.

At 260 miles put in a level 10 shift kit and changed chip programs, went a 13.18

At around 400 miles i met up with Jim Damore and got a superchip i had laying around programmed, went a 13.06.

At about 750 miles i got some ET streets and went a 12.88.

Then i traded it at 1200 miles.

I was basically figuring the same thing on the chip/pulley. Oil, now that's a slightly different story. I'll wait the 1500 to 2000 miles on that.

I appreciate the info.

I waited till 3K on the clock to start "playing" with my truck. I figured to go till 10K before I went to the synth oil.

BTW...I changed to Amsoil synth tranny fluid at 5K

I ran a 13.27@102 all stock with F1's in my '02 with about 600 miles on it.

Two weeks later, with about 800 miles on it, I ran a 12.62@107 with the help of a 4pound pulley, chip and modded air box on E.T. streets.

Not too shabby in my eyes

Hope you truck runs as well or better.

Let us know what times you run stock, I'm curious.
