2004 Lightning News (AWESOME!)
I just read Ford Hourly and they stated that there will be an all new 2004 Lightning!!! They are changing the name to Thunder, and it will have a 6.8 V10 with supercharger, 7-speed manual new Tremec 3560, with optional 8-speed automatic (yes, 8-speeds!). They repeatedly stated that horsepower and torque will be 543 and 782 respectively.
I can't wait!!!
(P.s. this is total bull***** LoL

Its just the people that are "in the know" arent talkers, and thats why they have those jobs.
I'll disagree w/the tranny and power "claim"
However I did design a water pump; for and Ford built at least one 6.8L V10 supercharged extended cab Lightning back in about 96 or so.
Personally though, it makes no sense for ford to do anything other than fine tune the current 5.4L S/C engine. There is no *current* competition to begin with. And IF one does show up, and IF papa ford wants to *better* them? Then all they'll have to do is to squeeze a bit more out of what they currently have. And we all know it's pretty easily done too.
It would make ZERO sence for ford to develope a new powerplant that strong and then have to make everything downstream strong enough to take it.
Especially when you look at the majority of who is buying these things new. How many people would shudder at the thought of a $50k 3 passanger truck? In that price range there are other things to look at as well.
Just my 2 cents, WOT

I'm sure it will have the new PowerStroke diesel tranny. It saves up energy during deceleration into hydraulics. During a hard takeoff the hydraulics release the power and thrust the vehicle forward.

You'd be suprised, the 94 bodystyle mustang was approved in 1989, and the 97 truck bodystyle was approved like in 94 or 95.
