Lightning vs. motorcycle

I have a dilemma on my hands. I don't have the money right now to get a Lightning and won't for at least two more years. My question is should I get a motorcycle now or keep saving and get a Lightning. I was looking at the Yamaha YZF-R6. Also, by the time I get the money they probably won't be making Lightnings if they stop after 2003. Does anyone know if 2003 will be the last year they make the Lightnings for a while and how long will it be before they start making them again?

How much money do you have?
How much can you afford a month?
Have you got an insurance quote?

I have about $3500 and the motorcycle is a little over $7000. I could afford about 200 a month payment and I talked to someone I know that has one and his insurance is $62 a month. He is younger than I am and has tickets. I have a perfect record.

$62 a month!!!!! Please tell me this is not for a bike. I was quoted 3,000 a year with perfect driving record.

Keep saving ... Can you use a motorcycle for year round transportation? In a couple of years there should be quite a few low mileage Lightnings available for resale, how many did they make in '01? Over 6,000 and who knows how many '02's. My '01 has just 2766 miles on it, and I picked it up knew 10/06/01, you do the math as to how many miles a year. I know for a fact I am not the only one that has a Lightning for a garage queen. In a few years you may not even want a Lightning, possibly something more interesting. Just save some more cash, and hold on, their will be plenty of very nice Lightnings around in a couple of years even if Ford doesn't produce another one.

Do any of you think there will be a 2005 Lightning? I could probably afford one by then.

Get the R6!!!! Since you can't afford the lightning for a couple of years, don't deny yourself highspeed fun for that long. You can even take it to VIR for some track days!!!! Also if you get the bike, talk to some racers at the track and you should be able to buy some take-off tires, for a good price, that will work great on the street.

Buy a 1991-1993 LX 5.0 sedan and slap a blower on it. Much safer and you can make it fast for little $$$.

Also a side note, im 20 with a perfect driving record and my insurance through progressive is only 36 a month liability...just a thought.
