car salesmen are idiots
I went to a local Ford dealer yesterday to check out a 03 cobra convertable. I was approached by a couple of salesmen with the usual, " what can I do to put you in this car today". I brushed them off with ease and kept looking at the car. I was inside the car running around a road course, in my mind, when I heard a salesman say, "this car is ready for nitro". Well I definitely needed to here more about this from mr. fast and the furious. I hopped out of the car and went to the engine bay to see just what he meant. I asked him to show me. He pointed to the shrader valve and said "thats where you put the nitro". He then showed me a random sensor that "was wired to the computer so it knew there was nitro on", whatever the hell that means. Then he pointed out what must have been an invisible hole to put the hose through the firewall. I guess only through his eyes could you see it. After all this jargon he pointed to the "exhaust" and told me there was a easy 20 hp if you modified it. Since when do they put a air filter in the exhaust? That was enough for me. I told him thanks for the info and headed to my truck. If anyone needs more info on this, then I would suggest heading to Crossroads Ford in Cary and I'm sure he will be there to help.
I think Ford must train there people to be idiot's, because when I went to buy my 02 Lightning, I was also checking out a 02 Roush Stage III Mustang. It was a beauty, but priced too high at $55,000.00. Some useless idiot tried helping me but knew nothing about the car or it's components. I figured since I just sold my 99 Cobra it was now time for a Lightning so I told him I wanted to buy one. I was told I had to go on a list and wait over 6 months and then not have a choice of color. He didn't seem as though he wanted to sell one to me. The guy taken care of me was the "SVT EXPERT" and the only SVT Sales Man they had.
Dam kid was like 19 and new absolutly nothing about the SVT Product Line. He was un-helpful, un-educated, and useless as a Sales Man. Finally after I told him I bought my 99 Lazer Red Cobra Convertible from them, he realized I was serious.
I was finally put on the list and PS never called back.
It didn't matter because after being mis-treated I went out the next day and bought my 02 Black Beauty from the guy who sold me my Cobra, now working at Sayville Ford close by.
PS.
Dam near a year gone by now, "and they still havent called me".

When I bought my Lightning, I told the salesman more about the truck than he told me. Not to mention, I corrected him ALOT with those similar statements about the performance and it's potential.
They just think they can BS everyone. The sad thing is, it must work on lots of people......

I bought my L from RiverSide Ford in Georgia. The guys there where up and up on there SVT. I live in Tuscaloosa AL. and went there to get my truck because the ford place in Birmingham, well lets just say they are a joke.
The Pontiac Dealer on 1960 near 290 in houston has the best sales people ive seen so far. Just to see if i could test drive a trans am i started talking with the guy and how i like to race. He told me that the stock WS6's will run 11's with only slicks and that if you take the exhaust off you'll at least get into the 10's. For some odd reason i had a Car&Driver with me and just had to show him the "real" performence numbers. I also forgot that there under rated and really have close to 450 bhp. Car salesmen never cease to amaze me.
Same happened to me when i bought my '01 HD. The guy thought he knew everything and I kindly tried to correct him...but ofcourse...he knew EVERYTHING so there was no point in trying - I bought the truck anyways-but not from that fool. It makes me wonder if I should apply for a job at Ford. They need some people that actually know some stuff about their damn vehicles. Maybe they should be required to join this forum.

Ricekicker, I thought about doing the same thing. I was thinking about getting in touch with the owner and telling him for 100k/year that I would go to work for him. I could guarantee that in one year that I would sell twice as many cars as those jokes. I actually had a salesman a few years back argue with me saying that my SVO wasn't a mustang. There were no badges saying mustang therefore it wasn't one.
Check this out... I was test driving a manual transmission GMC pickup, and here's what the sales goon actually tried to tell me: This truck has a "feature" where in an emergency situation, you can slam on the brakes without pressing the clutch pedal, and the vehicle will stop immediately (by stalling). Then he proceded to demonstrate by slamming on the brakes and stalling the truck!
Needless to say, I didn't buy a truck from the moron.

Car sales. Salesman (people).
They are first and for most, sales people. They might as well be selling matresses or electronics.
I have found that many of the sales people don't know any more than the sales manual says. You ever see what Ford gives thoes people to aid them in selling the "products"? There isn't too much about the vehicles more to do with "the right things to say".
I talk to the sales guys when I go in for oil changes. Most will admit that they don't know a whole lot about the mechanics of the vehicles. One guy didn't even know what an SVT Contour was.
I did buy a couple vehicles from one guy who took it apon himself to lear as much as he could. He knew plenty. Almost more than one would want to know. It was cool to talk to that guy. Of course he got a better job so I'm left with the typical sales people.
The SVT dealership in my area seems to know some about the vehicles. I haven't really talked to them too much. I guess I will have to (want to) in the next year or so ('04 Lightning!).

I was taking an 02 4x4 on a test drive and the salesman actually told me that the 5.4 was a bored out version of the old 351 cleveland........Hmmmmmmm.........how did they bore it out and lose displacement?needless to say I didn't buy from that guy
The first dealer I went to, the guy didn't even speak english.....which I really didn't care because I work deals better in Spanish anyway...........But hearing this ******** describe to me what the L supposedly had under the hood was embarassing...........I took it upon myself to embarass the guy in front of the sales manager by instructing them both on what the Lightning was.......what a bunch of dopes these 2 guys!! This was at Gus Machado Ford by the way, for you South Florida guys.
I ended up buying it at Maroone Ford from a guy who knew his *****.......hell we talked Nascar for a good half hour!! True Roush fan the guy.........and he knew his muscle cars well!!

this IS sad
On a better note, when I went to buy my L it was in the 90s and real humid. My wife and I had no intention of buying one at that time. I just wanted her to see them close up. While we were looking a salesman in his late 60s came out to where we were, all the way in the back of the lot, and asked if he could help. We told him no-we weren't buying today -just looking at the L. He said looking doesn't tell you enough about the Lightning, you have to drive one. We said no thanks but he insisted on getting the key for whatever one we wanted to drive. He limped back to the salesroom and came back with a key and told us to take it for a ride and enjoy it. We cruised around for about 15 minutes and when we got back he insisted my wife drive it too. She should know what the heck it was all about. So off we go again. When we got back we told him the same thing and he said he would see what he could do to get us in that truck. Well to make a lomg story not so long, we bought it and about a month later he died. F-n shame that on that hot day the only one that was interested in talking to a customer out in the heat, WILLING to step out of the ac showroom was a 60 some year old man ready to die. All the young guys in that showroom and he was the one to step out in the heat and we insisted we weren't going to buy anything. Bless that guy for being persistent.
I just walked in and signed on the dotted line. When signing the papers he started discussing the truck with me then after a few minutes just said "If your buying this vehicle you probably know more about it than me anyway"
