Cold Air Intake Idea

I was looking through some mags and noticed the cold air intakes built for Mustangs which place the filter inside the fender well. Has anyone thought about building one similar to this? I realise that the hole is already there for the Mustangs but it wouldn't take much effort to cut a suitable hole in the L's fender. This would provide the best of both worlds. '01/'02 owners claim better performance with the factory setup, while '99/'00 owners claim improved performance with the open element filters. What do you all think? This is not as complicated as JL's initial raim air setup so cost should be cheaper.

I think it makes more sense to route the air(thru a tube[s]) to the filter rather than have the filter down near the ground. Wouldn't you have to place the filter below the fender(with the tube to the MAF routed thru the inner fender) so as to be able to remove the filter for cleaning, etc.?

I'll admit I haven't seen the Mustang setup, so I may be full of it ........

A adapter plate bolts on to the MAF (in stock location) with a tube extending to the inner fender. The tube attaches to a sheet metal plate that bolts to the inner fender panel. There is a 90 degree elbow attached to it (on the inner fender side) to which the filter attaches.
