Video camera and software (Sort of L related)

I plan on taking video while driving at the track. What video camera should I get(looking for under $1000.) I'm not sure between the 8,DV, and dvd-r. Which software is a good value to edit it? I will be mostly taking video from the Lightning at night and some still photos. Thanks.

Get a camera that has an IEEE/1394 a.k.a. firewire connection and if your computer doesnt have that connection then get it. Its the easiest way to transport video from your camera to the computer. I have the DCR-TRV20 (Sony), I think it was under $1K but im not sure. Heres a pick of the DCR-TRV25 which is $900(I couldnt find mine on the sony site, guess they dont sell it anymore)

It has everything you will ever need. Including night vision, super night vision, memory stick for taking pictures, titles, effects, and tons of other stuff.

Good Luck with picking your camera!

EDIT:
oh yeah, forgot to say that this camera is MiniDV

Get a fire wire port and Premier

Definetly get a camera that has a "fire wire" port(IEE 1394) this will be the easiest way for you to transfer video into your computer if thats what you want to do. The software I personally use along with many people is ADOBE PREMIER. It will set you back about $600 but im sure you could find it cheaper. (or for nothing... opps).. PREMIER is also a very hard program to use, but if you get good at it you can do what ever you want. PREMIER is usually packaged with Cleaner 5 which will help export to the web. You do not have to buy that progrma though, there are many programs out there that are cheap and for editing simple home videos on your computer.
You might think about goin' with a camera that is mini DV or digital eight. I would recommend the mini DV because the quality is better than D 8, and if your compressing your videos and sending them to the web your going to lose many generations of quality.
By the way does your computer have a fire wire card? you'll need that to get the video into your computer. ive seen them at best buy for like $30 so no big deal. There are many options out there for you just depends on what you want to spend .
