How much boost for built motor?
How much boost for built motor?
My short block is rebuilt with JE pistons and Eagle rods. Currently running an ASP (2or3lb?) upper pulley and a PSP 2 lb lower pulley. I'm thinking of upping the boost more. Any suggestions of what to change to or what is safe? How much do you think adding boost would give me at the track or on the dyno say for a 4 or 6 lb lower? Thanks.

It depends on compression ratio of your new motor!!!
I'm having my new engine built with 8.2:1 compression for close to 30psi!!!

20+ psi?!? Bet the truck would move along pretty good with that much boost

Yep I was talking about Jimmy. I was there with the other Supra guys. That was actually the last weekend I owned that Supra. It was a black BPU 6-speed. Car ran 7.70s @ 93.5mph w/o nitrous, probably would have been a good race for your L. I sold it to someone in Tampa, FL. I think Jimmy is happy to have the only black Supra in town again

Didn't know you weren't spraying on that run with Jimmy. I asked him what happened and he said you had a 150 shot on the truck. Didn't say you used it, I just assumed you did. Awesome times for not spraying!! I just got my Lightning last weekend and haven't taken it to the track yet. The previous owner has a nitrous free 7.88 best in the 1/8th and 12.30 in the quarter. Not bad but I'm hoping for more...
That red L had huge rims so it is probably the same truck. I only stopped by for a second so I didn't get a chance to meet the guy. 18 hour work day? Wow, now that's a long day. I'll email you if I can make it tonight. Have plans already but that aren't solid yet.

7.76 @ 89 MPH would be my best ET so far w/o N20 and W/O my new converter...If weather was permitting enough I believe i can get her to go a 7.5x or so w/ the new converter...And hoping for .20's or teens with the JUG!!!

Heat control?
So if you're planning on running 20+ lbs of boost out of the stock eaton, how are you going to control heat? I'd think that the intake charge would be so hot you'd have to pull way back on your tuning to prevent detonation ...

Big boost and the Eaton work fine. I am running close to 20psi. At the Mod Shootout today I ran a 2lb upper and 10lb lower and ran consistant 12.0's w/ a conservative chip to break in the motor and it was very hot and humid. My friend has the same setup and used his race chip and he was running 11.80's.
A built short block like 69Roadster has should handle a good amount of boost within reason. I recently put in a built engine and slapped on the new 8# lower pulley and I think I blew the boost sylinoid cause now at high boost the engine futters and and does not excellerate but it does not dump all the boost. If anyone has had this problem I would like to know how you fixed it. I plan to try some parts off my buddies L.
