well guys i guess im a little disapointed....
last night on 101 i saw a blue camero z28 on the freeway, and since it was so late with no cars out, i gave him a rev and he returned the favor....now we were both going id say around 80 mph....and he downshifted and i floored the L out....the z28 pulled about a 1/2-1 car length on me up to about 110 or something....now with my mods(in the sig), i thought i should have been able to beat him...are these trucks that weak on top end?? Or do you think this z28 was modded??? help!

 

cant mess with those kind of cars on the highway, already going that fast. the z28 has no problems getting up to 120,130,140 mph, where as the L starts to lose its force and its shape and weight start to catch up with it. if your gonna race one of those kinds of cars, anyone here will tell you, better off doing it from a stoplight or a slow roll, where you can just punch it and hook and go.

 

You have a TRUCK. Don't be doing an 80 mph roll.....do a 15 or 20 mph roll and I feel you might do alot better. Our truck stong points are the bottom end torque and you threw that out the window

 

I kinda disagree.Ive never had a hard time from 80-120 unless its a LS1 which are a little meaner on high mphs.ANY LT1 should be 2 cars back at 120

Another thought is that you were just in the beggining of third gear which is not good,and I do my math corrctly,He pobally jumped you at 80 and then you stayed the same?....!

 

I'm also in disagreement... I have a 4# pulley, but everything else on mine is the same... I've killed 2 z28's, 2 cobra's, and ever-so-slightly pulled past a SS with exhaust and who knows what else... those were all from 80 to 140 (the Z28's let off at 120ish after I had 4 lengths on em)... I just posted about my hwy kills of the cobras and ss last weekend... oh yah, I forgot to mention, it was really humid and I had the AC on... forgot to shut it off... still beat em...

Wind resistance is there, but my truck suprisingly still pulled bad on all but the SS, and I even pulled on him... prolly 1 and a hlaf lengths from 80 to 140, where he let off, not me...

that Z may have been modded... the way I embarrassed the Z's that I raced, there is no doubt you should pull past a stock one... one was auto, one was stick btw...

 

interesting....well maybe i just timed it bad, or he just gassed it before i did....i guess i was just expecting more outa the beast, but it WAS an 80mph roll so....

Get nitrous!Or get a sportbike. Naw just kidding. You'll never know if it was modded. Sun has to shine on a dogs **** every once in a while. Sounds like gears and a bigger pulley are in line. remember we have 5000 lb TRUCKS.

 

dont feel bad, it was probally modded. i had a 94 z (lt1) with stage 3 heads, BIG cam, nitrous etc, ran 10.70's, and i would never dream of the most modded L getting past me. I also just sold my cammed/header, all bolt on 6 speed ws6 transam (ls1). that thing ran high 11's without even lifting a head off it, they were stock, so you did decent keeping up if it was modded. i also second the vote, GET A SPORTSBIKE! thats why i sold my ws6, get a crotch rocket and an l, best of both worlds.

 

My 2002 L is stock but i killed a ss in it the other night from about a 65 roll. He even asked me to pull over to c what i had under the hood...LoL.

 

Must been a v6 w/ ss badges. Those SS camaros do mid to low 13's right ouut of the box. A stock L is fast....not THAT fast.I'll be in the market for my 2nd bike...gsxr 750.

 

gsxr 750 is a nice bike, ridden an 00 a few times. i plan on selling the r6 and gettin an 02 gix 1k in the next few months. Thats a WILD ride. nothing better than toying with a quick car on the freeway and pulling a 3rd gear stand up
