Production Has Stopped For 02

I called SVT to see if I could get the build # for my truck. They said No..but production has stopped for 2002 on the Lightnings
they are claiming that you will get the certificates in August.
I also asked them when production started they said October of 01. I guess I wont have a low # truck being mine was built in Dec-Jan I guess I just have to wait and see
I just thought some 02 owners would want this info

They should've been able to give you the build number. I'd call back and see.

a few questions for you L owners....

1) When can you place an order with a dealer for an L...in other words, for 02 models at what point in time could you walk into a dealer and order one?
2) Does Ford always start production in October for the next year model?
3) Roughly how many a year do they produce?

I am thinking of purchasing an L, although it most likely will not be this year, but if I can get an early order in for the 03 model that would be just about right time wise for me.

Thanks for the help

Yhea, when do the 2003 L's hit the lot?

If you don't know, then when did the 2002 L's hit the lot?

‘99 production of 4,000 Ls began ~3/16 and ended ~8/20
‘00 production of 4,966 Ls began ~2/1 and ended ~8/15
‘01 production of 6,381 Ls began ~1/10 and ended ~8/21

'02 production began in October '01, and from what I read above, was completed in June '02. It usually takes SVT about 2 months to get production numbers from Oakville. I'll post total number produced, a breakdown by color and will start a build number list when they're available.

DHFerguson..... Thanks for info.

But will a dealer let you perorder a new L model before it hits the market and if so how far ahead of market arrival will they take an order?

Again, thanks for the info....

My dealer took my deposit for a '99 about a year ahead of time, just after Ford anounced Lightning production was approved. They couldn't enter the order into Ford's system until November or December of 1998. I was offered an early production number, but decided to wait for a later one, until some of the bugs were worked out, and I'm glad I did. That issue hasn't been a problem with later model years.

You need to find out from your dealer when Ford will begin accepting orders. For '01's and '02's, I think it took about 6-8 weeks from opening of orders to first delivery.

I recently left a deposit for a 2003 L. I spoke with someone I know at Ford and was advised dealers should be receiving ordering info within the next few weeks. Orders will begin being accepted in July with production scheduled to begin 11/02.

NJRed99.....Thanks alot!! That was exactly what I was looking for.
Sounds like if I want a 03 L around June~July of 03 I need to head to the dealer next week. Only question that remains is should I get the 03 or wait for the 04 and see if Ford answers the Dudge 500hp truck??

BTW - just curious about how much of a deposit you had to leave?

Again, everyone thanks for your help.

I only had to leave a small deposit because I know the dealer very well. I would assume most dealers wouldn't require a large deposit because they're selling all they make and with the limited option list (color / tonneau cover) it's not like you could possibly order an oddball that they wouldn't be able to sell.
