UPS delivered my RKKustom bedrug today, and I was curious if I should wax the bed of the truck befor einstalling the unit?

I guess I am too in some respect, but I suppose it definitely couldn't hurt by waxing the bed as long as I use alcohol to clean the area where the velcro will attach.

You might interfere with the velcro holding if you wax it first. You are actually supposed to clean any wax off before sticking the velcro down.

Have you considered the spray in bedliner stuff prior to installation?

Adds an extra layer of protection if the BedRug was to shift and some sound deadening. The velcro sticks well to it.

You could always install the bedrug, pull it out the wax it the bed. The velcro would already be attached so you won't have to worry about it not sticking.

That's what I did. A little Liquid Glass here and there. The way I figured it, the wax would protect the paint in the bed. But what do I know, smelling welding fumes all day

I waxed mine thoroughly prior to installing the bed rug. Just wiped down the areas with alcohol where the velcro should be placed. Been over a year now, no problems...

i wouldnt put in and take out the bedrug all that often. it seems that the velcro itself holds better than the glue. when trying to un-velcro some of the points on mine, some of the "hooks" on the velcro began to break off.

What are you waxing it with? If you use carnuba it will not last. It will melt around 140 F .

If you use a polymer sealent you would be better off. It would melt at 400 F which your bed would never reach.

Either way both will wear off after a while, and you will halfto re-wax your bed........

I didn't wax it, and I didn't have the energy or will to run around in the heat and find alcohol. (the bed was about 100* when I installed) Then after wash/dry I sprayed windex on a paper towel, and wiped down the area where the 2 long strips go. They're the important ones anyway. It's not really a huge issue unless you're going to drive around with your tonneau cover off.

I honestly think that a spray in liner underneath a bedrug is a huge waste. Sounds more like bad planning than extra sound deadening

No offense tampa

Five years from now when you pull the bedrug off and find that the back of the velcro rubbed through the paint and rusted, I don't want to hear anything...

I actually did it because(*gulp*) I had a couple of scratches on the bed from the moving stuff that went through the paint.
I could have touched up each scratch, but the spray-in took care of all of it.

Had nothing to do with poor planning, I assure you...(no offense taken).

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have both, but I honestly don't think the 600 bux it wil cost me up here is worth it for something that I'll see once or twice for the duration of my ownership of the vehicle. I honestly never plan to haul much more than the occasional buddy's couch
